I got a Powercolor AX7770 1GBD5-DH. To make a long story short, it only seems to work on the PCIe x4 slot that comes from the Intel ICH on a GA-B75-D3V. It shows this same behavior on a GA-H61M-D2P, GA-Z77X-D3H and Asrock H61M-GE. It Works fine on my AMD based boards (880GM-USB3, 78LMT-USB3). NOTE: All boards have their latests bios.
CPU-Z shows something weird on the Intel system though:
DC5 and OpenCL are unchecked even after installing drivers.
I tried to return it to the store but their test bench is an Athlon II X2 system so the issue didn't present itself.
I think that I'm dealing with a card that has a badly flashed bios. This card is supposed to have an UEFI GOP bios that should fallback to legacy bios (as it does on the AMD systems). What I think it's happening is that the CPU detects the flawed GOP bios and tries to go with it. I don't know how installing it on the secondary PCIe slot Works aroud that though.
EDIT: Correction. The card with GOP bios is supposed to be the AX7770 1GBD5-DHE. I'm a little more lost now.
To recap:
- Card works fine in PCIe x16 slot on AMD based systems.
- Card doesn't work in PCIe x16 slot on LGA1155 systems (H61, B75 and Z77 chipsets).
- Card Works in PCIe x4 slot on LGA1155 systems (H61, B75 and Z77 chipsets) but shows OpenCL and DC5 disabled.
Does anyone have this same card installed on a Sandy Bridge system? If you don't have this problem, could you please save and post your bios?
Thank you in advance.
EDIT2: Disabling UEFI devices on the B75-D3V nets me a long beep and 2 short ones (video init error) so it might have to do with UEFI after all. The AMD boards still have the old style bioses... but then so does the H61M-D2P, although it's supposed to be and HybridEFI bios. Still the common link is the 1155 platform.
EDIT3: Sent an email to Powercolor support requesting the bios file but I don't expect a reply at least until monday.
