so I picked up a 5800x and a Gigabyte AORUS PRO V2
attached it what I have so far
I haven't haven't had time to stability test yet as I Just got it bolted down but the fact that its not immediately bsoding is as good sign

I did a quick test of xmp and it boots but only at 1000Mhz Flck (trying 2000) results in weird freezing

Ryzen 5800x
B550 AORUS PRO V2 (rev. 1.0) (bios f14d) ( AGESA ComboV2 1.2.0.4 A)
GSkill F4-4000C18D-32GVK 2 x 16GB DR (currently running at 3766Mzh @ 16-20-20-24-64)
blah
blah blah
if you know any other dials I should be turning or buttons to press let me know the last amd system I had was a phenom

You will have to bump soc, 1.15-1.16something works good for me, more does nothing. Iod, cldo and the other one should be bumped too, sorry @ work and I always mess up on those minor voltage names..

bumping SOC to 1.18, IOD 1.1 and CLDO to .925

helped but it was still throwing WHEA errors under moderate loads
I have a hard time believing that this chip simply won't do 1800 Fclk at all ... but I guess its possible

So what now .... if I can't downclock it to 3600 at 19 19 19 39 without WHEA erros that means my sample is not going todo 1800 Fclk ? ??

If you want to find the fclk max, drop ram speed to 3000, and run a higher fclk without the ram causing added stress.

For 1800 I use 1.1v SOC and I throw in some LLC @ lvl 3 with a 20% bump in current capability. I run my CLDO at .999, VDDG CCD at .999 and VDDG IOD at 1.055v for 1800-1866, for 1900 IOD gets a bump to 1.065v. I get whea's after 1900 with 2x and 4x sticks. I use the same settings except SOC on my 5600X and is good for 2000 1:1 stable with 2x sticks, and can bench at 2100 and mess around a bit. On that CPU whea's come at 2033.

Edit:

My 5600X can only do 1833 stable with 4 sticks no matter how hard I try

Kinda makes me want to try again.

A 5800x should be able to run that ram at 3800/1900 with relative ease, no added voltage to soc etc etc. However you have Hynix dimms so I'm not sure on your timings. Above 1900 FCLK you'll need to raise volts. My Trident 4000C17 16gb sticks x2 runs 3800/1900 16-16-16-16 safe profile with ease but they're b-dies.

well I have discovered part of the problem tonight
the voltage controls for VDDG-IOD And VDDG-CCD don't apper to be working correctly according to zentimings
even with both of them cranked to 1050mv this is the best I could get

stumped anyway I set it I don't seem to have control over those voltages either the sensor is bunk or the control is bunk

so rolling back to F13 at least gets me some voltage control back
it dose still act like CLDO-VDDP and VDDG CCD are tied because I can only change those by changing the `VDDP` voltage in the tweakers menu the VDDG-CCD Option in the amd overclocking section does not seem to work still

________________
so now with the voltage control sorted I am able to run it at CL16 with the calc safe preset

Or not got a WHER buss error after several hours at light load dropped the fclk back to 1800 and the memory to 3600
adjusted the voltages some what down
VSOC 1.1000
CLDO VDDP 0.9976
VDDG IOD 1.0271

edit: went back to auto timings to be on the safe side not sure if physical timings have any effect on fclk stablity
suggestions anyone short of ordering anouther 5800x and sending this one back?

ordered a different kit of memory to see if anything changes

Tfaw should be a multiple of 16, I use 48 for stability, doesn't seem to affect speed at all. For 5x ryzen cpu the vddp, iod and ccd should be adjusted in 40mv increments, for 3x ryzen cpu it's 50mv.

Try 0.96v vddp, 1.0v iod, and 1.04v ccd.

Do Memory timings cause a innerconnect wher's
thats what I need to know I need to know if the F-clock is simply unhappy at 1800mhz
or if the timings are adding instability
I ordered anouther 3600 kit to confirm

ok so that helps because it passed a quick memtest and occt

so now I set it back to the default timings but am running it at 3600
is there a better way to test this I have run OCCT-PT Vram for an hour and it passes every time

what is infuriating is amd doesn't seem to bsod it just reboots
I would love to have a bluescreen because then I can look at that and say oooo Memory is unhappy or Ooo needs more vcore
this guessing game amd has setup is bullshit

tired of fking around ordered some balistics red

CL16 BL2K16G36C16U4RL

allegedly a good kit maybe even micron E

Oh you can still get blue screens heheh. Chances are your power limits are set low on the CPU. I got interconnect errors yesterday while running my 5600 and TM5. I was running 2K 1:1 with known good settings, tfaw was too tight.

no clue honestly I am at 3600\cl19 xmp timings on a DJR kit rated for 4000Mhz with a VSOC of 1.1, VDDG-CCD of 1.024 and a VDDG-IOD and of 1.050 and its still not stable
amazon is exchanging the cpu

@OneMoar can you clear up what you have accomplished so far and current issue? From my understanding, you cannot get 1800+ stable, is this correct?

I think I might have solved your mystery. Firs that G.Skil kit is dual rank I believe. Ryzen hates dual rank DIMMs I swear. Try these settings below for that gskill kit and see if you can get it to boot at 1900MHz. I doubt 2000Mhz will work without a few days of trying different ProcODT. It too me two days changing one settings at a time until I narrowed down to just the ProcODT. Than I was able to get 2000MHz stable with dual rank.

If you are using that Micron kit, IDK. put a bunch of high values in for the primary timings and leave everything else along. Just change the SoC and IMC voltages.

SoC - 1.20 V
VDDG CCD -1.075 V
VDDG IOD - 1.075 V
CLDO VDDP - 1.050 V
PLL 1.8
Try ProcODT 36.9 to 48 ohm
RttNom Disabled
RttWr - Off
RttPark -RZQ5 (Sometimes 7)
1T and Gear Down Mode or 2T
Try MemCad 20-24 Ohm - They can all be the same.

Accomplished a whole lot of nothing still crashes with the micron kit at XMP More voltage doesn't seem to help I haven't run it as high as you suggested but I was running it at 1.060 iod I tried adjusting the ODT didn't seem to help the fact that it crashes the same way with two different kits of memory tells me that the CPU has got a problem

it has not been stable at any of those settings
I am hesitant to push that much vddg voltage everything I have read indicates it just doesn't scale with more voltage
if it scaled with voltage then it should have been much more unstable at lower voltages and that has not been the case

New cpu is in here is a short list of things that now work that didn't on the old cpu

PBO /w curve optimizer currently -20 all core (old cpu couldn't even do -5)
PBO Max boost clock override +200 set to +100 now as it provides better sustained clocks (old cpu would not even boot reliably at +25 )
Ram/Fclk seem stable at XMP timings/voltage 1800/1800 3600 cl16
run ~5c cooler

Its rare to have a bunk CPU these days, but it does happen. Honestly that would be the last thing I would replace. But it worked out so congrats!

Looks like you got a decent one. Per my post #6, shouldn't have to touch voltage till you are past 1900 fclk. Though that is a big negative offset you are packing there!
