Hi, every now and then I some of the programs would not start (Firefox, ATI catalyst control center, Creative volume panel). During each time, the Restart and Shutdown function would not response too. I have a feeling that this hard drive (Dell rebranded 150 GB raptor) is crapping out. My system is C2D E6400 (OC'ed to 3.4 Ghz), 2GB OCZ Soe Ram, Gigabyte DS3 (F7 bios), ATI X1900xt, and Antec 500W Smart PS. Any help would be much appreciated!

cant you dl some sorta hard drive checker?.maxtor and hitachi have their own.do western digital?.

Can you get to the task manager to see if anything is using a lot of CPU or RAM? Have you installed any new programs recently or any updates?

Make sure you do antivirus and spyware scans and check your your System log (right click on my computer -> manage -> event viewer) and see if there are any disk read errors. Then stop overclocking for a while and see if that helps. IMO I don't think this is definately a problem with your hard drive, there are plently of other things that could cause it, the most likely for me would be that windows is corrupt somewhere. Like tigger69 says you should go to the WD/Dell site and download a diag utility.

Post back what you find, you might need to try a format next.

Most probably your windows is "malfunctioning" after tons of files or whatever crappy stuff you downloaded. Try formatting.

If the hdd is really the source of the problem, take the chance it gives you and rescue *now* the most important data for example to a external hdd.
It's possible that the hdd dies during the run of the hdd-test-tool !!!

Well i did say its the software wearing out not the harddisk. You can't assume hardware failures based on the bad experience on the software. You could probably do a HDD test first.

Completed extended test and the HD pass. And no I did not download any crap, Agility :mad: :nutkick: !!! No porn or even file sharing software like Kazza or Limewire. Ran Trendmicro house call and no virus. I just formatted this drive last week. Any suggestion?:confused:

this is a FULL hdd check could have some bad data or the like, if that dosnt work try a diffrent sata cable and if that dont work, reinstall windows again.

since its dell branded you probbly dont got a warr :/

No error on chckdsk. I will probably reformat the drive now. Dang it...another 2 hrs out of my life :( . Thanks for your input everyone.
