Soooo... I recently built an i7 rig, but have yet to mess with oc'ing because i've got major issues. Against my gut feelings, I decided to go with patriot memory because the price was good for a 6gb kit that ran at 1600mhz.
After a few days, with no OC'ing or even an attempt at it, one stick failed horribly. Thousands of errors in memtest, regardless of slot/timing/voltage I gave it.
So naturally I sent it in for am RMA. I unbox the goods and toss them in, manually set to 1.65v, 9-9-9-24, 1600MHz -> completely stock. before running my os, I run memtest and all is well after 2 passes. I figure i am good and celebrate.
After being gone for a week I come home to a freaking mess. One stick is bad again, and again thousands of errors no matter which slot/timing/voltage. Now my os is trashed because of crappy read/writes from this bad stick.
I am concerned about the mobo now simply because each time a stick went bad, it happened to be in the same slot. I am now running 4gb, with one stick in the suspect slot, and it seems ok.
Also mobo is msi x58 pro (all temps, including ioh, are in check)
ram is patriot pvt36g1600elk
wow thats a long post, first one in a while too, so what does everyone think? slap me for buying patriot, or could this mobo be killing these things off? Thanks!
