Baldur's Gate 3 Benchmark Test & Performance Analysis

Just my opinion: In image comparison sliders, it seems that low setting side looks better in:
contrast
visibility (no fog; no blur)
brightness
And overall there's like smudge in some places with ultra settings.

But textures seem to be better on ultra settings of course.

Are there any particular settings that should be turned off if I want to have better quality without loss of visibility/colours/brightness?

On a slightly different topic:
Could someone do a quick comparison how Radeon texture filtering quality low + surface optimization on compares vs. texture filtering quality high + surface optimization off?
Perhaps to make it easier, in a static scene. Ideally, with FPS measured at least approximately.
These settings have seldom been tested in recent years, there are only very old test results found online.

There are tons of "visual enhancers" in the game that can be adjusted or turned off like you can see here. Cloud Quality, Fog Quality, Depth of Field, Bloom, etc.

The vision of some game Dev's isn't always what gamers enjoy. :) Motion Blur, cough.

They did cripple the other chips with that slow ram, who the heck would pair a 13900k with that other than to show off with more cache
ryzen is also crippled, by not using 6000 with good secondary timings is probably losing about 15% extra performance, more than what intel would gain with perfect conditions

Solid 88 fps avg 1080p ultra on my 1080ti. 68c 250w 4.3 GB vram. She's still going strong.
Game has crashed so far once for me right after I got my characters all setup... So had to remake them

Looking forward to the Starfield analysis about this time next month. Keep up the good work!

The Divinity Original Sin 2 was a masterpiece for me and I love the game so much that I keep replaying it. I bought Baldur's Gate merely 2 years ago and played few times to check things. I remember the bugs and errors in the game at that time. I guess it is time to check Baldur's out and maybe put DoS2 on a shelf but the game truly deserves to be remembered.

I wonder if the DoS2 and BG3 are alike in terms of requirements.

Impressive gfx for a reasonable demanding game.

It looks like you are CPU limited to ~110FPS with the 13900K
Where's the 110 number coming from?

I picked a path that goes from a crowded area that's highly CPU limited, to something that's more plain vegetation, to something that's more GPU intensive.

I tried to give you "typical gameplay" numbers. Not "most GPU demanding scene"

So you ran 4 instances of BG3_dx11 as well and proceeded to host your own LAN game for a custom party?

:)
I did anyway :D Once you've created 4 characters you save your game and continue solo, poof done

Yes

Ah I scrolled right past the average FPS to minimum FPS charts without noticing.
Thanks.

Yes
I looked and my 6900xt and it has half of the FPS in BD3 than in DoS2 at 4K so maybe not necessarily.

iirc nv and amd already released theirs during the ea phase; nothing about the graphics engine's new at this point so yeah
Nvidia released driver 496.13.
AMD hasn't released a specific driver for Baldur's Gate 3 as far as I know.

Does anyone get pop-in during cutscenes? I watched someone play the game and it had an insane amount of pop-in.

@W1zzard

oooooo
Look a reason to test with. HDD…..cause it says ssd required. Lol

¿ 2023 "AA+" game that's not made with DX12?, what a disappointment

it have vulkan wich is equivalent and multiplatform

time to ditch DX once for all and embrace vulkan so anyone can play your games on any platform easily without emulation/interpretation layers.

i played the game on my steam deck, struggles at 30fps with low settings and fsr
I'm getting the same, I'm pretty disappointed given that there's been advertising about it being Steam Deck verified, I thought that would mean it would run better than it does. I'm guessing it's a CPU limitation :(

It would be cool to have Steam Deck performance numbers on game performance analysis content like this, I don't know if that would be something you could look into pretty please @W1zzard

As far as I can observe, the gpu on my deck reading maxed out at 99% so it seems gpu bounded to me.The only FSR 1.0 really reminds me how crappy upscaling looks not that long ago.

For those interested. I installed BG3 with Hotfix #2, as well as uptodate everything on the Ally. In the starting room on the ship with all settings on Low, no AA, no Upscaling, you get Mid to High 30FPS at 1080p and high 50FPS in 720p. 30W mode. It really needs the FSR2 patch.

Oh boy doesn't FSR 1.0 look like garbage! I turned it on thinking it would save me but it looks truly awful! I didn't check GPU usage, but upping the settings barely hurt the frame rate so I just assumed it was CPU, I'll have to check later.

Very useful info thanks! I think that confirms we're boned on the Deck :shadedshu: I guess I'll have to try streaming it to the Deck from my PC, but I bought the GoG version instead of the Steam version so that'll be a faff to get working.

That applies to me too, werid performance indeed ! Whatever I tweak I get similar framerates all the times.

There should be CPU tests in act3, i have tons of stuttering with my 10900k in the city when i move the camera:

Not really equivalent or they would have a DX12 path as well. And Vulkan performs noticeably worst in this game

Having vulkan does not mean the same level of optimization or performance or features as DX12, you could have a vulkan game that's barely DX10 equivalent.
