Bang & Olufsen Introduces the Beolab 8 Wireless Speakers, Starting at US$2,749

Why would you want to blast the music in the direction of the phone? Isn't the point of the Bluetooth speaker technology that you can put your phone down and still listen to music? At least I don't have my phone in my hands while I'm cooking.
The tech assumes you have your phone on you, like in your pocket I guess. It's a worse-than-useless features if your phone is not on your person, and at least your pocket is in the same vertical plane as your ears most of the time, which is why it kind of works, provided you sit or stand still.

Utterly pointless technology based on false assumptions if you ask me (why would I have my phone in my pocket while I'm cooking?), but each to their own, I guess.

It's a feature you can enable or disable. If you are the sort of person who always has your phone in your pocket, enable it. If you don't, disable it. Simples!

The nuances and subtlety of tracking beamforming are likely drowned out by any regular kitchen noises like running water, sizzling food, extractor fans anyway.

Might aswell get a pair of Genelecs for this price...

Those are real speakers and don't have the "appealing" design of something like this. I don't think they've ventured into the modern wireless dsp speakers either, I think they just do real speakers and really good ones at that.

It's not like speakers will integrate a kinect or some other camera/ir sensor like that, it's the only sort of reliable info they have to work with

You're just weird then, you're not supposed to ever stow your phone away, you might miss something! Like the music, see.

They don't even have to. If they just... I don't know... play music... that's perfectly fine. :) Maybe I'm oldschool, but I really don't feel like these attempts to reinvent the wheel are worthy of attention.

so your telling me if I cut open my oil filters I can sell them for $2500??

As long as you replace the paper by woods, and write a paragraph about how they follow the design philosophy of David Lewis
