i have noticed a lot of threads about raid 0....but couldnt find the answer for me.. so if you pls ..
can someone tell me if changing the sata ports will destroy raid 0 configuration??im having kida slow boot up time on my upgraded pc(its noticable slower then on my previus pc)
the board is maximus 8 gene and for the moment i use (sata6G_1 and sata6G_2) for witch i think might be asmedia chipset!
so i wanted to try to change it to intel sata ports(hoping to get beter boot time)
if i do that do i lose raid 0 that i created

You should plug each one back in the same ports as it can truly mess it it although most of the time it will go in to rebuilding but only done that with Adeptec and Intel chipsets.

I have had A single time were it would not worked at all after plugging in different ports but this was with 6 HDD's.

Changing chipsets sounds like a real bad thing to try, drivers would be missing and all sorts of things.

Asmedia chipsets normally run about 350MB\s even on a SATA3, and Intels typically run much better under SATA3. Noticing the difference real world is another thing.

RAID0 will not really improve boot times... While it will speed up things past POST, it will actually make the POST longer because it has to load the RAID array whereas it did not before.
...something to think about.

Really, I wouldn't R0 unless you NEED the throughput.

Might not be, you would think it be fine but foolish to try.

Yeah you can change the ports. I have one of my arrays "1 port apart" from normal when I did my new build. Still works fine. My Storage drive is in the middle.

EDIT: As long as they are on the same chipset

I have a windows 10 64bit n Intel RAID O my boot time is 5 seconds or less, you can try swapping them I never have. If it recognizes them then yer golden if not put it back is all, no harm no foul, if you try n configure them then your appt to lose it n need a fresh install. Can you copy it them, double it onto the intel RAID O?

i have read on asus forum that their boards especialy z170 board have booting issues!! some ppl have complaining about bios duble boting(posting) i was like whaaat??? then the guy posted video...and board do just that two times bios post ...,then go to windows.. and the guy had ssd and his boots times was baaaad!! so i was researching thru bios to find out why my pc also have slow boot times...,then i updated to the latest bios available and now my pc also double posting!! this thing is wierd!! i had zero issues with amd before!! bot in les then 15 sec...
Some of you guys say that it might be slow boot becouse of raid 0 configuration,so i want to ask if i clone my drive, and try to install windows to normal ahci mode(not raid0) will i be able to use cloned drive to reinstall windows??

EDIT: just to confirm that i checked and i did set cables to intel chipset, not asmedia

If you go ahci do a fresh install.
RAID 0 does increase boot times..depending on the chipset and health of the array it should happen in 15 seconds it or less (raid check in)
Raid 0 is awesome for people that are impatient when loading programs or installing them...that's it...

I go RAID 0 in all my main rigs...
I'm currently using a rocket raid card setup..
It's supposedly slightly slower than software raid but it's not and it's stable...
If a drive fails I'm fucked anyway...might as well enjoy the speed.

its not problem to do fresh install, but the problem is this freaking windows activation!!!
if i do now a fresh install do i get windows activation after that??
can i do windows back up or something??
UPDATE:
this slow boot issue was freaking me out...,i have read soooo many ppl with same issue..,and the problem is gpu,if you have newer uefi capable gpu no problem...,but if you own something like gtx 680 like i do and have the problem as i did(slow boot times) ,then the solution is update your gpu vbios!! i just did it make frew changes in the bios seting and that is it...its not perfect but it shorten the boot time for 50% minimum!!so happy configuring ppl!! :)

If win10, and you've already activated, then re-activation should not be a problem as long as all hardware is similar. I've tested this myself and it worked fine for me (Z170, RAID0, 6700K).

It did take about a week before it activated itself though.
