Hi guys, I'm thinking of buying my wife a laptop for xmas. I also want to play some decent games on it. I only want to spend about 1500 ish bucks on it. So , ya, I know I wont be playing Crysis on it, but it would be nice to play some BF2 and hl2 on it. Any ideas as to what is the best I could get for my money. Has to be a 17" display, and no Vista would be nice! but if it does come with it so be it.
thanks!

You can configure a Dell Vostro 1500 with a Core 2 2Ghz, 2GB of ram, and a Nvidia 8600GT 256MB for about $1000. They only sell them on the small buisness site, but you can buy from the small biz site even if your not a business.

Yeah, I'd have to say a Dell laptop to. Also, if you find a really good coupon for them the price is great.

best i can do... cost $1700...

Core 2 duo @ 2ghz
17in @ 1440x900
2GB of memory
2x 120gb HDD; 240gb in total
2x 8600m in SLI; up to 768 in memory (also HDMI)
HD-DVD reader/DVD burner
4x Harmon Kardon speakers with subwoofer
Quadband wifi (a/b/g/n) with bluetooth 2.0
But sadly, Vista Home Premium with media center.

Peeps are saying that they can get 8000+ on 3dmarks06 with a tad bit of OC.

Holy crap man. Laptops these days. Where do you keep the 4 speakers and sub? For 1700, you can probably play crysis on that laptop, I can on my system and I can barely break 5000 3dmark06.
