Bethesda: No Plans to Add FOV Slider to First Person View, Voice Chat Always On

Another clear case of told you so. Except this time everyone told everyone so - and people still went out and paid for a beta test.
Yeah I wonder how many pre-order refunds happened. I hope a lot, they. Need to be sent a clear message.

Except this is now an MP game and this outdated system allows you to do anything you want with zero effort or consequence or maybe you missed Batou1986’s post...They”ve “locked down” what should be a basic option but left the entire back door open for anything and everything else.
Really couldn't care less about the MP side of the game. And really, how hard would it be for the exe to be coded to ignore a config file in MP play.

No it isn't. There's an old saying and it shines brightly in this instance; If it's not broken, don't fix it. INI and CFG files work very well and make changing in-game parameters which are not found in the games' menu's a breeze.

Yeah, I call that mandatory. But they never gave an option to change something so simple in-game on the options menu, which bothers me a lot, implement it and call it advanced options or something so simpletons won't go there unless they know what they are doing, BOOM, done. But now, I have to unload the game to make or apply changes. In older titles if you save and load .ini variables in-game, the executable just simply crashes. WTF.

Coupled with sluggish load times, especially when modded. You are wasting time watching the screen going black for minutes just to see the result. People like the S.T.E.P project are saints for testing each and every ini setting. That's a ton of reloading the game. Otherwise I'd have to do it all myself.

A single indie dev somewhere is doing gods' work. While these people are doing, whatever...

Almost every game universally is able to switch important settings on the fly. Like, resolution for example. Can you do it in a BGS title? No, you can't. Do the tedious re-load, just because.

And every BGS title after Oblivion is simply giving me ammunition to say how behind they are in terms of gameplay, tech and engine stability.

That’s right it should be like that but it’s not. It IS an MP game and MP gaming 101 Is everybody gets the same options and nobody gets to fiddle with configs because it leads to exploitation, always.

Was under the impression that it had a single player campaign aspect. Might have misunderstood.

Well you can play “Solo” but you’re online with everybody else There’s no offline component.

Sod that. Single player online game? What's the bloody point?
Well the problem is it’s the same single player engine that at this point is just duct tape, string and bandaids that they’ve turned into an MP game but with all the same issues and exploits we’ve had access to in all the SP Fallouts.
It’s a total patchwork and it’s brutally obvious and genuinely a joke they thought this would fly.

I have misophonia so fuck people who chew with their mouth open, fuck Bethesda, fuck F76, and fuck people who chew with their mouth open.

Can’t argue with either. I absolutely hate voice activation and think PTT should be the only way to use voice comms.

Ha! Never mind the config or ini files. You can just edit .esm as well. Its a straight code port, every trick in the book is available. The only thing missing is a script extender.

Never mind also the fact that checks are client side or non existant, in other words, you can feed the server anything and it'll happily pass it on. This is cheat mania in a nutshell and a deathblow to any online community. Ironically, The Division comes to mind again: it also employed client side checks even when the community clearly spoke up in open beta that this would make the game vulnerable to exploits and hacks. Result: rampant RPM, teleport and dupe hacks, you could simply cheat engine your way into it, making the Dark Zone unplayable and completely destroying in-game economy, which caused a massive exodus of players.

LOL Dark Zone, not even once...

Fair enough.

Agreed. The thing is, back in the day for some mutliplayer games(mostly over LAN) all of the clients checked each other's configs to make sure they were all on the same set of rules, if not the MP session would crash. This was especially evident in the C&C series where if a rules.ini was used it had to be the same across all clients in the match or the game would de-synch and crash.

For current MP gaming, config checks should be done server side and any client not matching the others should either be booted from the match or set a config matching the parameters set by the server. It really isn't difficult to do so.

Ironically the DZ was one of the most unique and tense MP experiences I have ever witnessed. If The Division 2 can revive that and keep it alive this time around, its going to be a killer sequel. The potential is huge.

They can keep their POS ancient game engine and their bullshit locked down Console FOV.

Push-to-Talk: While we aim to create a consistent experience no matter what platform you're on, we understand that some of you on PC would like the option for Push-to-Talk. Our goal with voice chat being on by default is to highlight that the world is alive with real people, other players like you. We like to start with encouraging player interaction and will look into adding this in the future.

Reading this, I find this article more than a little misleading...

Well I never felt the desire to visit but I will say the Division world is one of the best crafted worlds I've ever been in. The environment was top notch, every thing great and small was real. See a can on a ledge? Yep you can shoot it and it reacts accordingly. I could wander the streets just sightseeing as it was such a detailed and rich world. I'm definitely going to keep my eye on 2 for just that reason.

Its still worth doing actually. Even solo. You get a good idea of the tension, still, because on your own all you really want to do is farm NPCs, collect loot and extract it without anyone getting in your way. Can recommend. Its a real challenge even just against the NPCs, too. Because you will have them trying to recapture extraction locations too, while the timer for the heli ticks down.

Matter of fact, if you want to group up and explore it sometime, hit me up! Ill need to reinstall it, but np.

And yes, the Snowblind engine is pretty awesome in many ways. The sense of realism is fantastic. That is also why I feel part 2 has a lot of potential, they know better than to screw up the multiplayer part of it again, they know they need to do better in terms of loot and progression, and the current state of Division 1 kind of shows those things already. All they need to do is make it bigger and better and get everyone on a new, more balanced progression curve. The current game even has some very nice itemization with all the set bonus combinations you can make.

Yeah I played it exclusively with a mate and together we had hours of fun without ever feeling the need to visit the DZ, I mean the horror stories were enough to keep me away as it was. I'm just not into PVP anymore but I can totally imagine the tension which these days I just try to avoid. Only beef really with the game was the bullet sponge mechanics.

This is literally a Fallout/TES mod being sold as a FPSMMO with the same busted engine they have used for years.
Currently the game don't even have integrity checks so you can just use the standard Fallout/TES mod tools to do whatever you want.
But hey if people will keep buying garbage why bother making competent games.

more about the zero effort mp mod to the engine
Holy.
Shit.

played teh game for 30 minutes before servers shut down

met first human player due to really bad echoing double sound and a floating speaker icon... it was just his speakers feeding back into the mic, heavy breathing and him saying 'sorry sorry sorry'

very immersive bugthesda...

Now could you imagine cross-platform? :shadedshu:

Maybe they want to play the immersion card differently: make the other players so annoying that you just *have* to nuke them.

Every time there's news about this game, its just feels that it's going to be worse every time.

WAIT!
The game seemingly having absolutely no security checks in place you'd expect from a MMO felt like a disaster, and I thought "holy crap, that's going to be difficult to fix or redesign", but I've just noticed the stupid game is supposed to be released next week. Next week!!! Wow! That smells of popcorn like internet hasn't tasted for a long time.

Last Fallout game = Fallout 2/Van Buren (FU Bethesda).
