SpaceX CEO Elon Musk announced a plan to deploy the rocket for interplanetary space trips for city trips on Earth.
With the BFR (Big F*cking Rocket), it must be possible to reach every city in the world within an hour. Most trips last less than thirty minutes.
According to Musk, most distances are completed in thirty minutes and a flight with the rocket should cost approximately the same as a regular plane ticket. He shows his vision in a concept video, which shows that, for example, the big rocket is flying to Shanghai in 39 minutes, at a speed of 27,000km / h. Because the rocket flies at an altitude where there is virtually no air resistance, the flights would be more economical than conventional aircraft.
The video also suggests other routes, such as Hong Kong - Singapore, London - Dubai or New York and Los Angeles - Toronto. All these trips last less than half an hour. The BFR is intended to rise and land from floating platforms at sea, near major cities. The actual rocket for city trips does not exist yet, but Musk says he hopes that its construction can begin in six or nine months.
Elon Musk announced his new, ambitious plan at the end of his presentation on the ITS, the Interplanetary Transport System, to be used to colonize Mars. The BFR is also the rocket that SpaceX wants to use for that.
