Biomutant is a third-person action RPG that's similar to Fallout, Zelda, and HZD. The post-apocalyptic world that's now dominated by rodents is highly detailed thanks to Unreal Engine 4. We take a closer look at performance using a selection of 23 graphics cards at three resolutions.

interesting performance. almost 30 fps faster at 1080p going from 6800 to 6800 xt... that $579 and $649 MSRP was bogus pricing imo. 6800 xt should have cost more from the get go, or the 6800 non-xt less.

or the 6800 non-xt less.
Definitely this, the 6800 should have been even cheaper. In any case MSRP is the dream very few have achieved this generation.

WAY less. The 6800 should have been, tops, $500.

I've been hearing the game is boring.

Probably pass on this one.

This game was a disappointment, looks pretty but beneath the surface there isn't much there, boring as hell. " Similar to Fallout, Zelda, and HZD." this is wrong, the correct comparison is The Batman: Arkam games plays exactly like a cheap unpolished clone of that. I didn't go in with high expectations and was still let down with how unfinished it feels. Even though I got it on sale, I still paid more for 2077 and that game got dragged even though it was much a more complete experience just missing the final polish. This feels like they ran out of money after spending all their budget making it look pretty, then just buttoned everything up to where things were acceptable and shipped most of a game.

But it doesn't look pretty at all. More like upscaled UE3 and many environments are generic, they just mixed every tileset in there.

I was watching this game with some interest, but it seems content being a happy experience more so than an interesting one. Tries very hard to score on cute points. Dunno. Didn't click with me.

The pics made me think of Ratchet and Clank.

W1zzard : wanted to ask if you could provide a video of the part in the game you benched? so I (we) can compare your results. Thank you.

I have literally fallen asleep playing this lol More than once... Thats not a great sign.

Glad I got it for €3 on Origin (pricing error). IDK what price would seem fair, but I can safely say that this is not a AAA game, despite the AAA price tag.

AAA games do not use marketplace assets lol.

I've heard from many sources that this game is too easy, repetitive, and just plain boring.

It looks pretty, even if the lighting and shading look a little....pixely? to me. And urban exploration is a sadly underused setting for games. But without a decent story this is just another sandbox simulator.

Might check it out on sale, or if it gets a major story update.

I was being nice, pretty out of my mouth means "doesn't hurt my eyes to look at."

hmmmm Is it just me or are a lot of these cartoony games resource hogs? I've seen similar quality graphics in other games but double the fps. Is this a trait of the UE4 game engine or other???

Thanks for the great writeup. I experienced the same. Lots of bad rep from many prof. reviewers - and I agree to a lot (empty world, the narrator is .... a real pain) but I also see what they did here and that there is a lot of room for improvement. In this game via addons/updates and, if they are allowed to go at it with a bigger team, in a sequel.

I mean, even massive studios did a lot of stuff they had to rectify later on with updates or even addons. Just look back at WoW release before the content-patches 3 months into the game and then the pre-BC-content-updates.... We remember it fondly, but to be honest? There was A LOT of stuff wrong in the first year which we all were ranting about even though we loved the game. And Blizz has a bit more resources ^^ ... so in general what they did here for Biomutant isn't .... "that bad".

I really hope they go the way of fixing some of the issues that are fixable easily as for instance the "empty spaces" (having NPC's and stuff to fight randomly shouldn't be a big deal - takes time and dev's who define spawn points, difficulties and loot-tables but it's not something magical that would need a whole new game - just a content patch) and of course the DX12 support which would benefit everyone. Yes, that's mostly for PC but it shouldn't be more than just a few hours of one dev who now should have some time after they released the game anyway :P ;)

I see those VRAM requirements continue to shoot up.
