I have 2700x system I am on BIOS 7B79vA5 from 2018 currently.

I wish to update the BIOS so it will support 5950x.

I have updated BIOS in past but they required different procedures depending on brand, cpu and generation so would like some insight and instruction on the cleanest safest way to update. (Last time I did it was 2016 and I have bricked a couple boards before)

I have already contacte MSI support twice and got two very differing pieces of advice and instruction.

First I was just told to download the latest and update. Which I was not sure about because their was 5 years of BIOS updates and in the past I have dealt with having to BIOS hop.

Second I was told I need to update to 5 different BIOS in a specific order ending with the BETA BIOS. This sounds more correct to me but I really do not like the idea of updating a BIOS 5 times just seems like I am asking for a trip up along the way.

If anyone can clarify or instruct me more clearly on the best course of action much appriecated.

Best method is using M-Flash from Bios/UEFI environment, not using apps under OS.
Alternately, there's a tool with very successful rate on the forum, i used it myself already on a Z490.
Forum UEFI Shell Flash tool [V1.43] for MSI boards! ✔ | MSI Global English Forum

Couldnt find any info, quick search, on support for AMD 5000 series on the the non-MAX...indeed the MAX latest bios states this, but not yours.
Your Beta bios is from May 2023 and the MAX is from Oct 2023...

Last year I updated a bios of a MSI B350 Gaming Plus. It had a bios from 2017 and flash it directly with M-Flash to the latest bios since I have tools to recover from a failed flash. In my case it was a no brainer :)

If you want to play it safe:
- 7B79vA9
- 7B79vAA (Changes bios interface from Click Bios 5 to GSE lite)
- 7B79vAH
- 7B79vAL or 7B79vAM1

Thank you both for the replies, I am already aware of what BIOS I need to get to. Its the the getting there like stated in the first post MSI support gave me two conflicting pieces advice and then didn't reply to me when I pointed this out to them since it left me a little confused on what to do. In the past some boards required you to BIOS hop, I know thats less common these days but not its not really clear on MSI's page for my board I guessed I could just do one update since all the listed BIOS are the same size but was unsure given the 5 year gap between BIOS.

I have also read M-flash is quite tempermental and historically its MSI boards I have bricked even though I did things correctly so I am quite cautious not had issue with other brands. I will give UEFI shell tool a go.

I have only updated BIOS in the past when they needed it. I really appriecate the replies I think I am going to just update to the latest AM1 Beta BIOS I also have external BIOS chip flasher though never used it.

@VuurVOS

When you flashed your B350 to the latest besides losing settings did you have any notable issues or loss of functionality.

I use this system as a VM home server, currently it has RTX 3070, GT 710 x1, 10Gtek PEX quad m.2 card, LSI HBA card. I have 1 M.2 on the board for OS and 6 sata drives plugged in + 4 on the LSI card. I asked MSI about it but they just ignored my question. So any insights you have will be much appriecated.

It was quick for me

Had some technical issues (usb3 ports not working) with the latest bios for the Ryzen 5000 series but they were fixed after I complained :D

Hardware monitor is different, the graphical part is gone for configuring the fan control. Controlling the fans from the bios is possible.
The only thing which I really miss is the old way of storing the overclock profiles. It is still possible in GSE-lite but you need to save the profile on an usb stick....

You have at least 7 stable bioses with GSE-Lite interface. For B350 bioses with GSE-Lite were all beta.
