so i was helping a friend do some simple work on his PC, updated his BIOS, which the only way to do was through windows, older ECS cheapo 775 mATX board, but now ever time it starts up, the BIOS says CMOS checksum bad, cmos date/time not set, hit F1 to enter setup, i'll go set the date and time, save and exit, and then it just repeats that as soon as I restart the rig, havent gotten back into windows yet, wondering what I need to do, thanks

check reset jumper. if its in "clear" mode it will keep clearing each time you reboot.

What he said^^

And, try replacing the CMOS battery.

I know the jumper is in the right position, had to reset the BIOS right before, so that is good. Battery came to mind too, think a reflash in DOS would help? Also gotten into windows now, have to enter the BIOS, then just exit without saving anything.

Probably would not hurt, but what about your statement.:)

well, when i was in BIOS, i didnt seen a flash utility, so did some google research and found out you could, i feel kinda stupid now :p, but i might also try talking him into a new MB considering this one doesnt do dual chan for mem

Well, since it messed up after the update, it can only be:

1. something that the person with their hands in it did:slap:

2. odd co-incidence going bad at that time:ohwell:

3. bad flash:eek:

So, why would you not fix it, instead of talking him\her into a new board? Just wondering.
