BIOSTAR X670E VALKYRIE

@Tek-Check here you go! Nice thing about 40MP camera is I don't have to retake, just move the crop :)

I'm not sure if the iGPU supports DP 2.0 since it was finalized in 2019. Well into production of RDNA2. Something @W1zzard might be able to answer with access to the whitepapers.

Thank you very much. PI3HDX12211AZHE 2208GC seems to be HDMI linear redriver 12Gbps x4 channels, from Diodes, suggesting support for real HDMI 2.1 FRL signal (Asrock's implementation on X670E and B650E is 32 Gbps). I am enquiring about the second one.

RDNA2 integrated graphics was enhanced both for Rembrandt APUs and Raphael CPUs. DCN of both support DP 2.0 and HDMI 2.1 FRL. In addition, Rembrandt APU has been officially certified by VESA for DP 2.0 signal at 40 Gbps on a reference laptop during San Jose Display Week, the first of its kind in the industry. We are yet to hear from any laptop vendor that decided to expose this APU's capability for external DP 2.0 displays via USB4 port.

It was reported by @TheLostSwede earlier this year.

Ultimately, we are curious to find out whether those video signals are baked into AMD's APU/CPU or need conversion and uplift via an additional chip, which would be optional for motherboard vendors. So far, no vendor has exposed DP 2.0 from Raphael iGPU at 40 Gbps. It would have to go via USB4 as DP Alt Mode 2.0 or via stand-alone traditional DP port, as Thunderbolt 4 chips supports only DP 1.4.

I have never had a Biostar MB before but I trying save money and this a strong contender for needs, the BIOSTAR X670E VALKYRIE. Cannot wait for it’s release hopefully at a special intro pricing. Middle $300 would be my sweet spot!

Hey Welcome to TPU! Take a look at the final page of the review.
Ignoring the complaint about the VRM heatsinks, which I think it a bit too critical, if you can live without those things and the the price ends up be good, you will have a good experience.
Not everyone needs extensive OC functionality, USB4.0, 10Gbps ethernet or built on WIFI. The memory support will improve with the retail release of the board.

After talking to a system builder at MicroCenter, going save my $ and head over to the $1K high end motherboards shopping.

Seems like a Bang4Bucks MB. X670E Aorus Master, B650E Master, X670E Carbon WiFi are nice too, but priced a little to high. 150-350$ range is the sweet spot for a MB, anything higher is considered expensive.

Still dissapointed with Zen 4 maximum DDR5 support though. Maxed out at just 6600, while Intel going as high as 7800-8000.

Someone at Microcenter convinced you that $1k motherboards are good value? Good grief.

Thanks for the review. Would you be able to take another photo of the area below, to identify the chip above PI3HDX12?
PI3HDX12 seems to be a redriver for HDMI 2.1 output from iGPU. But, I am not sure. Do you know?
The chip above it might be a level shifter/mux for HDMI FRL signal, but it's not visible here.

I am asking this for two reasons.
1. AMD claims that iGPU on 7000 CPUs supports DP 2.0 (at 40 Gbps?) and HDMI FRL (allegedly up to 48 Gbps)
2. It is not clear whether support for these video outputs is baked into CPU or additional chips are needed to provide those signals?

It would be very useful to identify those chips and find out what they do. I have looked into every X670(E) and B650(E) currently on the market. No vendor has enabled DP 2.0 from iGPU so far. As for HDMI 2.1 FRL, only Asrock and MSI's MPG line claim to support FRL output at 32 Gbps (8 Gbps per lane x4).

As this is the first ever generation of motherboards to have modernised HDMI output from 2.0b (18 Gbps) to real 2.1 speeds (32 Gbps, like PS5), it would be good to know how it is done.

That's an interesting catch. The PI3 is an HDMI/DP signal redriver chip:

It costs $1.74 USD each and is sold in reels of 3500 units. I wonder if they are related?

Edit: I found it! It is also a redriver chip by ON Semi:

3.3 V Dual-Mode HDMI 2.1®, DisplayPort™ 1.4a and DisplayPort™ (DP++) 12 Gbps Level Shifter/Linear Redriver
