I would say 2023 has been one of the most lackluster black fridays. There was some decent deals in the 2 weeks leading up to it, but not much now.........well in Canada anyways.

There's a lot of good deals on 4TB SSDs. 2 good case deals as well (H7 Flow and Fractal Mesify for $70 (assuming these deals didn't expire). Power supply pricing seems to have come down a bit but it was also over-inflated.

Otherwise yeah, extremely mediocre deals this year and very few of them. Amazon typically has a lot of fake sales but it's particularly bad this year with them slowly raising prices prior to Thanksgiving. The best deals I've seen thus far have been 15-20% off food stuff I was going to buy anyways at smaller online retailers.

I tried to be polite, but this has been the worst Black Friday ever. Lousy deals on the websites I normally shop on (Amazon, iHerb, NewEgg). There are 30 items on my cart and there wasn't a single discount for any of them. Just a regular price! and for a few items, they put a fake price above (e.g. Oh just $33 instead of $25,000). For the few good deals (non-computer related), it was just for Prime subscribers only (even when if I have Prime Gaming).

Same here. Nothing really interesting. "Was €120, now €100!" level deals, which is fine if you're looking to buy those things anyway, but not exactly steals.

Yeah the fake pricing on Amazon really gets tiring. Zero doorbusters on Newegg this year as well. Probably the worst BF I can remember. Typically BF is used to make way for next year's models but I guess companies really don't want to give customers the opportunity to claw back some of the inflation their greed inflicted.

I haven't been monitoring the the price for this over time but this AM5 board kinda looks like a deal, at least not overly expensive at $150

I'm just glad Amazon didn't make quite the splash landing when it launched here in Sweden (recently). Their prices aren't really competitive for the good stuff (meaning brand name actual things and not the €15 soldering station market place junk), and many stores are just good to deal with and as such has a decent amount of customer loyalty.

Maybe the Cherry MX Board 1.0 I got for €35 counts though...

Why was anyone expecting anything when we're in a recession, companies are actively trying to not cut people (although only because they know it's going to cost them a lot more to get those people back on top of it being hard to find employees) cuts had to be made, so no discounts.

Had about a dozen items I was going to purchase anyways, the only seasonal sales were:

145$ - Topping DX3pro+ (list 200, normally 170)
145$ - Apple TV 4k 2022wired (5$ off!!)

Pretty disappointed, but savings is savings.

Typically during a recession companies are forced to accept lower margins as customers tend to question the price of products more as their purchasing power reduces. If companies aren't taking a hit to margins but instead increasing them it means there's a huge imbalance in the power dynamic between customers and companies. It indicates a lack of choice to drive price competition. In the case of the US for example, the sale of general goods and food store brands is way up. That said that only applies to areas with access to store brands (food deserts are a huge problem) and store brands do not cover every product category. There's already only a handful of companies handling food and general goods in the US and they seem to be able to force customers to accept higher prices, much like how the few egg producers in the US did twice now (everyone remembers the recent egg price hike but US egg producers just lost in court over their past price fixing).
