I have this really really really annoying problem with my stupid pc.
For a while it would just randomly reset for no reason at all and on occasions i would get a message say "Cpu is unworkable etc". This has only started to happen in the last few week or so. Ive never oc'd the mobo or anything.

I decided to open up the computer and make sure everything was connected up properly. Now when i turn on the psu the computer starts straight away for some stupid reason, the HDD doesnt boot and i get a blank screen with the monitor led just flashing. Yet when i disconnect the power supply to the motherboard the HDD actually works. Its really doing my head in.

btw my mobo is an abit IS7 running 1gb of pc3200 ram and an intel pentium 4 2.8 processor with a 500w psu.

Any ideas?

Maybe a possible short in the motherboard itself. Sounds weird to be sure. If you have another motherboard (compatable) I would try it.

When the power supply is connected to the board and you boot, does the HDD light come on or flicker or anything?

Is that the light on the mobo? Because i normally get a green light and atm im just getting a red light. I don't see any activity from the HDD. Im really confused :(

Well on some its a yellow light, on others its a blue light and others its green, just depends on the case. You could possibly here it even spin up as well.

Also, if you are looking on the mobo and an led is red (unless you board is made with red leds for extra bling) consult your owners manual to see what it means. It could be telling you whats wrong with it.

Whats really wierd is that it just starts up as soon as i turn the PSU on. The reset button doesnt work either.

Hmm....did you build it yourself? Maybe something is crossed or reversed. Or, it could be that the board is going bad, though I wouldnt think so.

Also, perhaps do a virus scan and adware/spyware/malware scan.

It was build by some nobby bloke who didnt build it how i wanted. All that has been updated is the soundcard and Ram (pc2700 to pc3200)
I would do a scan but as i can actually get the computer to even boot it impossible lol ;)

Oi....hmm. If you can, go on Abits website and check their forums for similar problems. Could be a bios update that can fix it. Or something might be crossed. Im thinking either crossed or reversed just based on what you said. Reset switch dont work, it may be installed wrong. But I dont know much about Abit boards to say for certain if it is or is not the problem.

its a bad mobo if the light whent from green to red my mobo does that it will go from red to yellow and on the dell server i have it goes from green to amber thats how i figured out why it wasnt booting the mobo was dying one day it wouldnt boot and i looked and it was amber i looked it up it said if amber light cpu/mobo failure .

Ahh. How long ago did you get your system built?

Bugger, if its a bad mobo then im screwed i have no money at all. I suppose ill just have to sit on my dads rubbish pc fantasizing about computer parts i could afford if i wasn't so poor :banghead:

Thanks for your help guys.

New_rez that is (who Im asking). Perhaps its covered under warranty or the board can be RMA'd?

Its about 2 years old. Ive always made sure it all in check, antivirus, cleanup etc everyday, defrag every week, always cleaned.
Its just my bloody luck.

Also warranty has run out.

Well, sorry to hear about that. I was hoping there was a warranty of some kind either from the builder or the mobo itself. (If its a 3 year warranty, it should be covered and be able to be replaced.) If nothing else, you could try and ssve up about 80 bucks (55 GBP or 68Euros) and get a board to replace it.
