Just got this laptop three days ago and from first power on it was hot as hell. 2minutes into windows setup it got so hot it shut down. since then I've reset, monitored temps and throttling, read countless posts but nothing that helps or is the same problem. now its crashing and i get troubleshooting startup errors, NVidia driver installation failures and its still hottttttttt af even at idle. CPU is around 60c at idle and NVidia gpu at 50-55c at idle when not gaming. i know nothing about computers. I need some help.

Oh yeah, it was purchased from marketplace off a kid that said it wasn't ever used or opened and as far as i could tll the box was still factory sealed. I still paid a shitload for it but I'm to assume no warranty and i cant find anything for razer support anywhere on this planet.

Return it! NOW - before you do something, if you have not already :( that voids your warranty!

Nvmd, you bought it from fb which has no buyer protection. Open it up , clean it, replace all thermal pads with correct thickness, verify if cpu has a IHS or direct die.

Next time stick to new

Also those so called thin "laptops" are actually notebooks (weaksauce cooling).

You may need a cooling pad or switch to a Eurocom/Sager thick Desktop Replacement Gaming Laptop.

Perhaps you can talk to @unclewebb on using throttlestop

Oops! Sorry! My bad too - I read the first couple sentences then posted my reply.

I may be SOL - unless you can talk the selling into taking it back.

CPU is around 60c at idle and NVidia gpu at 50-55c at idle when not gaming.
That is perfectly normal for a laptop, as they have limited cooling and loud fans. Unless you want those fans running full pelt all the time, those are the idle temps you'll get.

It's also a thin but very powerful laptop. It will run hot. Most measurement tools will report it as throttling when operating normally. CPU temperatures near 100°C and GPU temps around 80°C if not more are expected. As long as the CPU isn't going below base clock under load (2.3GHz at 45W I think) it isn't actually throttling, just operating at its peak within the capabilities of that laptop design.

I'm definitely not saying your issues don't sound serious, but to me none of that sounds like it's related to thermals, at least not based on the numbers you provided. Have you checked the event log for any reports on why the system shut down when it crashed?

its new. i opened it a few mins ago and its spotless inside. just downloaded throttlestop and ill take your advice on the help there. thanks.

here you go support page. Razer Blade 15" Advanced (2021) | RZ09-0367x Support 60c isnt bad at idle in summer but theres something amiss if its shutting down through heat.
it's acting really strange like a car with a bad computer throwing codes at everything except itself. it hits 90 and 95 when gaming in just a minute or two. the rtx gets to over 90 of course its throttled but still holds those temps and ive got the fans on at 4900rpm, still that hot. does it matter that mine is a RZ09-0409x

Just a thought.... if the original seller still has the invoice for the original purchase, you could get some help through Razer most likely.

When I have done sales through eBay and even giveaways at my LAN functions, I try to keep that stuff on hand just in case of issues.

Thin and gaming Is a misconception, its designed to throttle, sell the damn thing and get 1 from the makers I stated above. Or build a desktop

Being a Facebook buy, good luck getting anymore from them.

yes just go to support scrol-down and pick your model.

Sounds completely normal to me. Remember: this is a laptop, and a thin one, with high powered components inside. And, crucially silicon chips are perfectly fine running up to (and above) 100°C. Us desktop people are spoiled and picky - laptops don't have spare room for larger fans, so they have to settle for small, noisy fans, meaning they prioritize lower fan speeds over thermals to make the user experience bearable. What is your room temperature like? What power profile is the laptop set to? Have you checked Event Viewer for error logs?

Not normal behaviour, I have a 9700hk/2070 razer and it's fine.

You got suckered unfortunately, don't buy from marketplace at all for electronics.

If that kid didn't give you OG proof of purchase along with it you might as well be dealing with stolen goods.
