Brand new Samsung SSD 860 EVO 500GB wearing out already after only 293GB written on it

Hello,

I think I have a problem with my brand new Samsung SSD Evo 860 500GB. I have installed it for only a few days, and only written less than 300 gb on it as per the SMART datas from the Magician app. Yet, the wear leveling count is already at 1.

Something doesn't add up, as that SSD is supposed to be good for 300TBW.

- TRIM is enabled
- Windows 10 installation is new, version 20H2
- defrag is disabled from the start
- Nothing is installed on it beside Chrome, Firefox, and Edge
- Most writes from the 293GB written come from watching youtube videos/streams

Should I ask for a replacement?

Here two screenshots from the magician app (click on the arrow on the right to see the second screenshot:

Thank you in advance for any help.

Stop worrying mines at 15 and it's still says OK unless it says Warning the SSD is running as it should
Thank you very much for your reply.

I have a second SSD (same one, I bought two of them) installed it on my wife pc. She's nearing 200GB written, and I'll report if the same happens when she reaches 300.

I used sandisk SSD before, and it started wearing out only after a few TBs were written, so I was not sure.

Now, a little rant.

I live in Europe, and Samsung support is.......... weird - to be polite - so far.

In magician, i click on help > Support, and it asks be to go there: https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/support/cs/

I click on the link on this page, just to get: https://www.samsung.com/global/support/

The page you requested is not available
Sorry, we are having a problem executing your request.
The page you requested could not be found.

So, I keep my cool, and go to their discussion community. I then go to support > email, and reach a form where you HAVE to pick a category... the problem is that there's NO category for SSD/Disk drives.

Finally, I found this: https://us.community.samsung.com/t5...ling-Count-quot-increasing-and-not/m-p/964723

Where a mod tell people you need to email

Code:
support@totalts.com

for SSD questions/problems.

All in all, it worked when I sent an email, and it opened a ticket.

The process was just awful since I used Western Digital services before, and it was miles better than what Samsung is providing.

I hope it will help people if they have to contact Samsung.

Nothing is wrong with the drive. It'll tell you when there is an issue.
Thank you very much for taking some time to help :)

The one in my 24/7 server is at 370 on the wear leveling and still says OK. 138TB written, almost 30,000 hours (3.5 years) on it. You'll be fine. :)

my newer 850evo has around 30,000 hours, my older one is years older but in my kids PC. the wear reading is 99 on both, which i think is as high as they go.

that software is useless, windows will trim the drive.

As a general question, do you guys run "over provisioning"? ..Question for a few users.

Mine takes away 190GB out of 2TB SSD for Over Provisioning.

You do realize that the moment one byte of data is written to it starts "wearing".

Storage Optimizer will defrag an SSD once a month if volume snapshots are enabled. This is by design and necessary due to slow volsnap copy on write performance on fragmented SSD volumes. It’s also somewhat of a misconception that fragmentation is not a problem on SSDs. If an SSD gets too fragmented you can hit maximum file fragmentation (when the metadata can’t represent any more file fragments) which will result in errors when you try to write/extend a file. Furthermore, more file fragments means more metadata to process while reading/writing a file, which can lead to slower performance.
