Bsod with memory upgrade

Are the corsair sticks running at 1.5v? According to Asus only 1.5v RAM will work, and higher voltage DIMMs will cause a BSOD.

I don't know .. I did not check that. At the moment I'm only running the Asint memory to check if it will run without a bsod.

Funny, I never voided my laptop's warranties by adding drives or memory... HP, ASUS, Toshiba, or MSI... most have access panels for such upgrades and give the customer instructions on the proper procedures.

Anyway, back to topic... What are the Corsair part numbers... and from what I can gather they should be 1.35V sticks.

The corsair memory should run at 1.5V, I can't find that information for Asint.

I found it... HWinfo showed me the memory voltage and the Asint is running at 1.5V now, so thats not the problem either.

Well, I found this from Corsair.

Quotes from their memory page:
1.5 Volt Vengeance SODIMM kits are designed for notebooks with a 2nd or 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i5 or Core i7 processor.
If your notebook uses a 4th Generation Intel Core processor, you should use one of our 1.35 Volt Vengeance memory kits.

Well, I found this from Corsair.

Quotes from their memory page:

It's corsair ValueSelect and the processor is a i7-740qm

I was just sharing some info I found... I was wondering why different voltages were showing for the same laptop.
And, that helped explain it.

Your 1.5v seems correct for your system.

Yes I think so... Now I'm running only the Asint sticks for at least 2 weeks, if no bsod occurs then I think there might be something wrong with the the other memory slots

Uninstall Microsoft Security Essentials and use a real antivirus. It used to be good, but Microsoft have stopped updating the security definitions.

Microsoft went on record officially last year saying they don't recommend you use their own "Microsoft Security Essentials" software and recommend you use a third party antivirus software. Tom's Hardware only gave it 10/20 for its protection. Maybe you have a virus!

That's bullshit. Microsoft updates the definitions multiple times a day you ignorant cretin. And why do people always assume that Microsoft was saying "Don't use MSE!"? They were saying that because you shouldn't just run MSE on its own, you should have something like Malwarebytes running in tandem to get what MSE is not designed to combat, and so that the FCA wouldn't think they were encouraging people to use MSE over other companys' software. Get your facts straight before you start bashing a perfectly fuctional piece of software.

But i only added extra memory, does that void warranty by just upgrading ram in the 2 empty ram slots?

If the software was fully functional they wouldn't recommend you to use a third party application.

You don't see Mcafee or Norton saying to run third party applications because they're confident their software does the job!

Why did you quote what i said earlier about adding extra ram, that had nothing to do with anti virus.

In February I upgraded my asus n53jq laptop with an extra 4GB ram, the original 2x2GB modules installed were from the brand ASint Technology (never heard of that btw), but could not find any ram sticks for sale here, then I found 2x2GB sticks from corsair with the same timings, 9-9-9-24 so i ordered these.
After running fine for just over 2 weeks I got a bsod, ntoskrnl.exe+cc727 MEMORY_MANAGEMENT.
After restarting the laptop everything was fine again till 3-31 another bsod, ntoskrnl.exe+f20d4 IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and the last bsod today ntoskrnl.exe+e6e18 MEMORY_MANAGEMENT.
After that I ran memtest and there were no errors but I took out the corsair memory and will see if it will crash again or not in a few weeks. I could not find any solution for it.
And something else.. Some people say it does not matter if you install more ram, it won't affect your WEI score but it did with me, my memory WEI score with 4GB was 5.9 and with 8GB (added 4) my score was 7.4! But currently running at 4GB again waiting to see if my laptop will crash again in the next 2 weeks or so.

This certainly sounds like you had all 4 sticks in at the same time. Even though they're the same main timings doesn't mean it has the same timings and mixing ram can quite often cause instability.

Yes since I had 4Gb already I did not wanted to buy a set of 4x2 or 4x4, since I already had 4Gb, I was just upgrading, I think most people do it this way.
But yes it did not work for me.

Do you recommend MWB? How easy is it to remove if I decide to test this out? I am using just MSE. As some background, I frequently reformat and I have been virus free for atleast 6 years, I only started using a legit virus protection program (apart from Clamwin) about 2 years ago with MSE. I use noscript and never ran exe's unless I scanned them with Clamwin, now I use MSE which I like due to its low overhead. I've also ran the browser in a sandboxie for suspect sites too.

Last big virus problem I had was in 2005 I think.

Sorry for derail, I'd like to try malware bytes but don't want it wrecking my current system.

Accidentally clicked the wrong button.

My personal assessment of MSE is its very light weight on resources. I actually likes it as far as navigation and resources. I haven't had a major virus in years, but I did notice when I switched to MSE briefly some minor spyware and adware was slipping through undetected. To be fair it wasn't anything serious that is going to damage your computer.

I recommend using Comodo Internet Security, its absolutely free. http://www.comodo.com/home/internet-security/free-internet-security.php

I've used MalwareBytes free for years , it works great and never have I had an issue with it. You do need to scan regularly and update it.

I'm using MSE with Comodo firewall, did not had any problems/virus in years, I'm happy with it.

I RMA'd the memory, they tested it and it was faulty, I will receive new ones soon.
