There are boards for older Intel CPUs that did support DDR2 and DDR3, but only independently of each other. You could not run them both at the same time, just one or the other.

DDR2 became obsolete and unsupported on Intel platforms over half a decade before the Z97 chipset launched.

At one time back in the 939 socket days there were some boards that had both slots. But you could only run one or the other
Just like there were boards that had both AGP and PCIe.

No, DDR2 is no compatible with the board you listed and probably CPU's available for such board, i could remember the exact model that had 2 slots for 2 memory types, but even with that board you cannot use mixed types...

Yeah, I've never heard of using DDR2 and DDR3 at the same time either. The result would probably be... not good. There can be issues mixmatching the same class of memory because speeds and timings and whatever other witchcraft are different between the sticks... I couldn't imagine what would happen trying to use DDR2 and DDR3 together.

No he's saying that the memory controller, which for that generation is built in the CPU only supports DDR3.

Z97 is a DDR3 platform.

DDR2 and DDR3 have different fitments...you would damage something trying to install DDR2 into a DDR3 slot. I suggest you do some research on RAM and it's different versions for systems. There's some good info you should know.

you could USE ONE OR THE OTHER and not mix them

I am only aware of one Brand that offered AGP and PCIx(at 4x) and that was the Asrock Duel Series

those Duel Series were aimed at the upgrading market
you could use your Existing Ram (DDR1) and when you could afford to upgrade to DDR2 you just swapped out the DDR and put in the DDR2 in the other Slots.
Same with your AGP card when you got a PCIx Card upgrade you just put it into the Vacant PCIx Slot
and it was possible with those Boards to run Both AGP AND PCIx
they mention something about that in the manual ( duel Displays NOT CROSSFIRE OR SLI )
