wanted to upgrade to something better today and found these two. just wanted to make sure. socket g34 is the same as AMD2?

G34 is not the same as AM2+

Check the support section of the ECS website for that board... it may have support for some AM3 cpu's (phenom II, etc) but don't expect too much

I did check , says the lastest is a dual core. I don't think those websites are too accurate about what cpu someone can use because they haven't updated the list. Nobody didn't think i can run a X3220 on a Dell 745 without using a mod , but i didn't have to use a mod, i have the x3220 running in it right now

It's very likely that the motherboard was sold through HP, Dell, etc. OEM's don't list those motherboards on their own website.

They are, by far, the most accurate list of compatible CPUs out there - in fact, they are the only source you can rely on because motherboard makers are the only people who actually test and certify all CPUs compatible with their specific boards.

Review sites typically test with just 1 CPU and not for compatibility, but to compare performance with other boards using the same CPU. Retailers get their lists from the board makers.

And the reason those QVLs (qualified vendors lists) are not updated beyond a short period after product release date is simple and totally logical - CPU makers do not release CPUs for legacy/obsolete boards and technologies. And based on this 2008 post the MCP61PM-HM series board came out almost 9 years ago!

NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 - this particular chipset is really old, specific mostly in AM2 era (not AM2+; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NForce4 ; sure motherboards with this chipset with a bios update can work with some am2+ cpu, think i even saw a cheap low end motherboard that supported am3 cpu, but i wouldn't really use am2+ cpu or newer in a motherboard with such chipset)

by the look of the mb it looks to be a 3+1 Power Phase Design; with 3+1 you should use max 95 watt TDP cpu
if you try to put a X4 9950, if it actually boot (might not boot cause bios might not know how to initialize the cpu, or you might end up with a max 800 mhz/core freq), i won't be surprise to see the vrms in fire

I wouldn't invest much in it to be honest.

Anyway for what exactly you want to use this pc? All the AMD cpu that you can put in this MB will have a really low IPC.

My father is using an old AMD Athlon 64 X2 5400B and he is very limited in the games he can play due to the low cpu IPC. (League of Legends is kinda the only current popular game that he can play at decent fps, everything else is a no go).

Without a proper list with the cpu supported by this motherboard is kinda hard to say something. I fail to find a proper list. I also fail to understand why they list as max this "Athlon64 X2 with Dual Core technology up to 5600+ (up to 89 watt TDP)" when the AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ (3.1 GHz) Brisbane has 89 TDP.

I was using my dell 780 with a x3360 and Firepro V4800. But i put that aside and bought this rig i am using now for 10 dollars, so I'm just messing around with it. I replace the 300 PSU in it with my Thermaltake 450 PSU, added an external HD, added 2 hard drives ( one 500 and one 80GB ) and using my GTX 550 TI in it. So far, after testing 3 games the Phenmon X4 9150e is faster than the x3360. So I'm just messing around with it, paladins works better though, stays at 60fps all the time pretty much at max at 1600x900.

Follow the Second Generation link for the list of AM2 parts, ensure they match the tdp of your motherboard for best compatibility, also find the latest motherboard bios too.

It says AM2+ 940. Well the Phenom is AM2+ 940, but its 45nm. I'm using a 9150e, which is 65nm, but the same am2+940

It says AM2+ 940. Well the Phenom is AM2+ 940, but its 45nm. I'm using a 9150e, which is 65nm, but the same am2+940

Check the support section of the ECS website for that board... it may have support for some AM3 cpu's (phenom II, etc) but don't expect too much

Again, the ECS website should give you a list of compatible CPUs...

Ok it is oem so not alot of documentation on it, I provided several links to the board above, that closely match yours. I'd look at revision 2 for yours as a cpu support reference. Maybe rev 8 too since the pcb is green...

I had a board similar to those and it supported my phenom II 940 BE perfectly fine. I would at least take a chance on the 940BE because its far better than the first get phenom chips

This board is an HP OEM board. ECS will not have info for such boards on their site.

Based on information from HP's info site, a Phenom 2 very likely won't work. Go with the 9600 and call it good if you can get one for a good price[not more than $45 shipped]. For it's day, it was a good CPU. And it's quite an upgrade from what you're running now. Additionally, even though the site stated 2GB dimm limit, experience has shown that those dual memory slot nvidia chipset mobo's will take 4GB dimms for a max of 8GB. A word of caution though. Drivers for that chipset have been known to be "iffy" on Windows 10. Windows 7 is your best bet.

Reading around a bit, someone upgraded from a 9600 to a 940 which is AM2+ as well and it worked just fine. So I'm going to go with that and see what happens. I will let you guys know if it worked

I'm only using 4gb ddr2 for this computer, don't see any point to upgrade the memory on this computer. I always use windows 7 lol. I'm never using windows 10, i don't like it and i tested it 3 times................
