I've recently make a bolt-on bracket for my CPU cooler, expecting lower temps (since the pushpins weren't seating it properly).
Not so! My temperatures are in fact pretty much the same as if I had the stock cooler on, clocked at 3.2 GHz.
I mean mid 30s idle, and high 40s - mid 50s when under load (60 - 70 with linpack)
What I think is wrong is that the current TIM I have might be old or dodgy, as my temps with a different (although still cheap) TIM used to idle at low 20s and max out at the high 40s, and barely got above 60C with linpack.
The TIM I have at the moment has the consistency of golden syrup, and I suspect its gone off or something.
Could bad thermal paste make this much difference? Should I go out and buy a tube of AS-5?
