Cannot view more than 4 gigs of vram usage

also, did you download GPU-Z here on techpowerup, i know that's silly but maybe ... if you got it elsewhere : it can be the source of the issue

annnnddd you didn't understand his question... he was not asking if the 2 reading were same after passing 4096mb but before.
yes sorry, and yes they both do, was on the road

no i got it here

Can you actually read my answer and not ignore it? and not only mine. then you know what's going on maybe.
it might be a bug, but it seems the ui changes for some reason on my pc, others also have a few different gpus in and it shows correctly and in some no on the rendering forums so am not sure whats really going on

can anyone else here show their ui? i want to see what yours looks like for gpuz

here is mine in Elite Dangerous (1070)

another advice : avoid to double or triple post, or even quad, in a short interval, try to use the edit function located at the bottom left of your latest post.

afterburner shows 4222mb usage, so the 1st remark i did is kinda right since there is a slight difference between the 2, although my GPU-Z shows reading above 4096mb

Alright and use the multi quote function - double posts get deleted here.

for my 970 card my ui is like yours now but for my 1080 it says dedicated at the very top of the ui, it also in the first slot for gpus which someone had suggested, maybe i need to switch them around, here they are

are you launching those from the same link?
turn off vram in title so you can compare the version numbers.

yes its from the same link, thing is the options i get are different depending on the gpu i select, i will move around now the gpu positions and see

W7 x64 SP1, GTX 1080, nVidia 373.06 running CUDA code P-State P2 using 6GB VRAM

18ndw5.png

Note: Shown as "Memory Used" in GPU-Z, "GPU Memory Allocated" in HWiNFO64 and "memory usage" in AB.

Now watch what happens if the GTX 1080 is run headless.
ormc1v.png

GPU-Z no longer displays "GPU Memory Allocated" but instead shows "Memory Usage (Dedicated)" and "Memory Usage (Dynamic)" with the dedicated memory reading the same as HWiNFO64 "GPU D3D Memory Allocated. In fact if we where to leave GPU-Z running as in the first picture while going headless on the 1080 then "Memory Used" would show "--" (not readable perhaps).

It would help to see your complete build.

Why have you got a 970 and a 1080 in the same PC?

Which card are you using? Try it with only one card in your PC.

Having a mix of GPU cards for rendering purposes is quite common and all cards used. (SLI is not necessary for this).

At least fill in your system specs its a Forum requirement. Then members are more willing to assist

Yeah also my GPU is using over 4GB in GPU-Z in GTA V.

strange... again the AB reading is around 2162+4096 (i wrote there was amount variation between AB and GPU-Z... but now ... which one is correct ... ) although even in HWINFO64 ... it shows like that, mhhhh weird ...

oh wait .. not the OP answer ... NICE FINDING!

EXCUSE ME but when has it BEEN A FORUM REQUIREMENT that is BULLSHIT

Its polite and usefull to members offering help and advice .....>>>if Someone wants help they Should fill in their system Spec's

EDIT READ MY SIG and in case its too small for your eyesight
in large letters
YES MY System Specs are filled in " if you cannot see them then you don't have sufficient privileges":banghead:

Ok lets call it a Guideline then
""Describe your problem as clearly as possible, give system specs and mention what you've already tried.""

It would help for a start ,at least people would know what OS they running 64/32bit ,Driver version,...helps pin pointing problems some people look past
On the second post you can see how it affects assistance

@dorsetknob - Not interested in your specs atm as it does not solve the Op's issue . Geessss Chill outttt

but isnt it obvious that in this case the build is not important for someones pc? the issue is gpuz and switching the ui for some reason but its not related to the os or what cpu you have etc, its a issue i see what varying cpus and gpus, i can here as a last resort, before i never even knew this forum existed so i searched for help from my colleagues, you guys have to understand that not everyone who comes here is clueless, msi afterburner works exactly how it should for me just i was curious and came to ask but some of you guys here are really rude i have to say and not very helpful and infact just more confusing, since you have not seen the problem before then why even respond to the post and make it longer if you have no real help to offer, i hate when people do that

since it appears to be an issue with running as a headless device. using a dummy hdmi plug or a second cable to your monitor might get you past the problem short term till @Wizzard can take a look

?

Is your GTX 970 still plugged in? If so, why is it the main GPU, while the much more powerful 1080 is relegated to a headless position? When you took it out and "tested", did you go through with a clean install of drivers?

If the issue is that GPU-Z changes its interface for headless GPUs, then make the 4GB 970 the headless one?

Switch them around, run DDU, reinstall drivers, then come back and fill out your updated system specs.

Some members on here haven't been great at reading things, but as you're the one coming to ask for help, I'm sorry to inform you that you're the last person entitled to complain and give others attitude. This isn't a business, and we aren't a customer service department. Now, you've gotten the advice and a way to contact W1zz. Take it one step at a time.

Possibly a buggy Win 7 D3D call which becomes evident when GPU-z is forced to use that method in headless mode, no display attached. Headless mode is quite common for rendering with a bunch of graphics cards being used for their compute power, no need for each one to have a display attached. NvAPI_GPU_GetMemoryInfo call works okay in headless and that might be what AB and "GPU Memory Allocated" in HWiNFO are using while HWiNFO shows results of both calls.

I'm only guessing though, really needs the W1zzard's feedback on the matter.

its windows 7 and why should it matter which version of windows?
When using the WDDM memory sensors (the ones that show dedicated vs dynamic), Windows 7 can only show up to 4 GB VRAM usage. The variable that stores memory used is 32 bit. On newer Windows versions this counter is 64-bit

The NVIDIA driver based sensors (just Memory Usage), should be 64-bit on all Windows versions. But if it's not available for some reason, GPU-Z will fallback to the WDDM one.

@mitviz here's a quick and dirty program, GpuMem to check memory using NvAPI. Should work for multiple cards, well as long as their nVidia cards of course.

@W1zzard attached is that 5.328 you asked about a couple of days ago. It's a 7z file to meet the 2MB requirement so will need renaming.
