can't install .net framework

"setup.exe has stopped working" half way through install. im downloading from microsoft.com, tried 3.5 SP1 pack, full package, just 3.5.exe, tried using firefox 3 beta, IE8, safari 4, disabled win firewall (only firewall installed atm) and it still does it:banghead::wtf: anyone else have this problem?
 
Try getting the file from other pc and put it on a flashdrive. Install from flash drive on your pc.
 
once installed on my Dell the file disappears...can't put into thumb drive. man XP is gay!
 
still doesn't work, i can install .net framework 3.5 but not the service pack.
 
uninstall the following:

- Hotfix for Microsoft Windows (KB110806)

- Hotfix for Microsoft Windows (KB930264)

- Hotfix for Microsoft Windows (KB929300)

run ccleaner

then try installing again

unless they're ghost files i don't have those installed...where would they be?
 
Go to programs and features and click on show installed updates on your upper left hand corner
 
The installation of .net will create a log.

I have attached a collection log util.

Run this and upload the log to me

Download collect.exe

The utility creates a compressed cabinet of all the VS and .NET logs to %TEMP%\vslogs.cab.

the program starts and closes....not long enough to even see its a program...after running it about 20 times i was able to make out its a Console app with text in it...what am i doing with this?

i have microsoft installer 4.5...and i can't find microsoft installer redist for vista.

Your event Application event log should have an error with information about the crash.
 
goto: start menu

type: %temp%

click and drap vslog.cab and drag it to the desktop... upload that file here
 
Does that link work for you?? I was going to post it earlier but I couldnt get the page to load. It may be just me.

ok i ran .net clean up and CC, still doesn't work.

i have none of those, i do have hot fix KB942288 and KB952287 though...are those good?

im logged in as admin, yes. should i be running something as Admin?
