can't install .net framework

if you are working in vista i am assuming that you have already gone into "start/stop programs and turned on all the pieces of the built in .net3 ?? open the folder tree and make sure everything is active and running. you will have to reboot once done. if search within the MS tech boards you will find a kb article about it- seems to me i found it searching vista 64 then 3.5 sp1- it tells you all the steps.

if not your servicepack will not load.

what do you mean "start/stop programs" ? do you mean start/stop startup programs?

If ^^^^^^ doesnt work ,did you optimize vista by doing some tweaks? if so undo them and try^^^^^again.

ok so in the .net framework readme says windows have to be up to date...and as you can see the last few updates have failed...could this be causing the problem?

did you try what I had posted in my previous post?

did you try what I had posted in my previous post?

yes, sorry...thats what i mean't I tried your method and it gave the same error.

ok this is really pissing me off! i just bought visual studio 2008 Express edition and i have 2 programs to write for a project and they have to be done within the next 2 weeks!:banghead::cry:

I hate to say it, but you may have to reload your OS and start over

I really can't think of anything else, maybe someone else has an idea... I'm not one to reload an OS, but you may have to!

Do people need Framework 3.5?
I thought 2.0 was good enough

and btw, Braveheart i got that same problem about 2 years ago, couldn't solve the problem, so i just gave up

frick, i just reformatted it! i don't want to :(

frick, i just reformatted it! i don't want to :(

it sucks when you have to do that!! If you can get a copy of Acronis True Image... What you can do is reload vista, install all updates & drivers, tweak vista to get a little more performance... then make an image and burn it to DVD and ur set

and i shouldn't remove KB952287 ? only KB942288?

KB952287 is only for XP SP3 and deals with MDAC.

KB942288 is Windows Installer 4.5.

Remove KB942288, restart, and reinstall it from here:

Vista has 3.0 integrated and Server 2008 has 3.5 integrated. Windows could be protecting some of those files which is why it is having problems.

i can't thank you enough! you're awesome:) i added you to MSN, the invite will be from luke15

I read in one of the posts you purchased visual studio 2008, just for future info you can get it here:http://www.microsoft.com/express/download/#webInstall and burn the iso to disk.

You might have to use IE to view the Visual Studio pages, Opera does not display properly, don't know about Firefox or Chrome, as I do not use them.

From you last post it looks as though you got er done, so I figured I would just post this for info only.:)
