I have bought Sapphire HD4890 ( vanilla version ) few months ago when they were just released. clocks are 850/950 .I had tried to OC it many times, but when I reach to 900mhz coreclock it gives me artifacts. Max stable setting I got is 890/1060!

I tried to increase gpu voltage to 1.3375v but still it didnt let me go over 915/1060 Mhz :(. Should I try any other BIOS? can I flash BIOS of higher clocked versions? any suggestion on which BIOS I should use? You help will be much appreciated friends :).

Chances are if you cant software oc it very much then a bios flash will do you no good either, You might just have a card that doesn't OC very far it does happen.

I Struggle with my Sapphire ones, too. But going from stock cooling to water blocks helped a lot, in regards of voltage increasements. SO if you want to overclock high, you need really really good cooling.

No flashing it at this stage is just silly.

I'm thinking you have a heat issue so try running GPU-z as well and keep a eye on the temps but the slave temps more. You will need to ramp up the fan speed to max you can do this in GPUTool.

You should find out what the card can do 1st. I use GPUTool and CCC and only clock the ram with CCC.

How i checked mine was find out were the max was at default which was 945 without errors, and then bumped the voltage higher 3 notches and see if it allowed me more overclock which it did BUT problem was is heat and you will have to find a way to cool those VRMS for sure.

Mine hit 80c-93c ish while gaming over hours in a room temp this week 89f ( 29c ) with GPU @ 975 and ram @ 1105..

The higher the ram speeds seem to effect the max GPU speeds too and extra volts are required it would seem for the GPU to solve it..

I you flash it you can make it dead. DON'T !

Your card just doesn't OC that well. It's something you've to live with

E.g. my GTX280 reaches 713Mhz where other GTX 2800/285/275 cards can reach 750Mhz... we just have to live with it.

You could try to increase voltage but watch your temps!

ATI cards generally dont overclock all that great.

Besides, why are you worried about it to begin with? You will get more than enough kick for all your gaming needs out of that card as it is.

DO NOT DO THAT! I repeat, DO NOT DO THAT. An ordinary HD 4890 has 2x 6-pin power connectors. XFX4890 Black edition has 1x 6-pin and 1x 8-pin connector. After restart it won't let you get even to BIOS! It will just flash a warning that the card isn't getting enough power.

* * *

Anyhow, try raising that voltage up to 1.4v - I pushed my card to 960/1100 without artefacts. But those VRM temps ratted me out - anything more than 105C on VRM's = artefacts, freezings and reboots.
