Can't turn off Windows 7 update.

IE 11 has been running like crap, almost unusable in my AM1 Windows 7 rig. So I went in to IE advanced options and reset the browser. Rebooted and opened up IE 11 and it popped up a tab that downloaded and installed about 8 things, while there was a little Windows 10 icon sitting in the quick launch bar. The installs finished and the icon went away.....but now I can NOT disable automatic Windows update....WTF Microshaft!

Anyone else fall victim to this?

This happened to me a couple of weeks ago, I don't know how it happened but I know that there's a gpedit fix and registry fix for this.

The easy fix or the gpedit (Group Policy Edit) fix :

-Search for "Edit group policy" or just use Run window and run gpedit.msc
-On the left panel navigate to : Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update.
-Find the "Configure Automatic Updates" on the right panel and then double click or right click and then choose "Edit".
-If you want to disable Windows Update completely, just choose "Disabled".
-If you want to choose your update preference (automatic update, notify when there's an update, scheduled update, etc.) then choose "Enabled" and choose your preference from the drop down menu.

Looking at that screenshot it would suggest you are not a system administrator? Do you have multiple users with different logon permissions?

I am the only user/Admin on this PC, it is a dual boot 7/XP though?

That isn't Microsoft's doing, that's malware at work. And opening I should never trigger Windows Updates to be installed, so I'm guessing those "updates" were really malware.

Do the usually, start with a malwarebytes scan.

F**K Me! This sucks! I have a GoPro and it requires Quick Time for it's editing software. I read the Next Power Up article about the Quick Time. Guess I wasn't quick enough to uninstall it from my rig. Crap!

I know, this may not be the cause, or any part of it, but Quick Time isn't going back in after the format I am going to do. Cry.

I read windows users should abandon Quicktime as Apple is no longer providing updates for it
