Having seen various attempts at glasses over the years from a whole host of companies, I'm still yet to see/feel/hold/use one that convinces me the technology (or programme base to use such tech to its proclaimed abilities) is there yet.

Besides that, the cheaper units have a tendency to give the wearer some interesting ocular strain that makes the real world seem quite odd after taking them off.

I'm not sure about the Zeiss glasses being good or bad, but as a whole, due mainly to the limitations and issues present; I'd stick to your 30" screen and be happy.

OR if you want immersion, buy a couple more 30's

870x500 resolution?

So I presume the real resolution would be 1740x1000.

As you see, not 1080.

However, seeing as it makes it appear to the user as if they were sat in front of a 40" TV @ 1m (3.3ft), what it looks like to your eyes must be quite an interesting experience.

I'd give the product a try if only to see how much it hurt my eyes... or how amazingly cool it looks since its been a short while since I last tried a "VR headset" :banghead:

Why would one choose this over the Occulus Rift?

The Rift is not available yet - not retail wise.

870x500 resolution?
There are different resolution levels per usage. E.g. 3d cannot render as high as 2d - at least that's how the specs read. And I could be wrong - hence me asking people's views on it.

Yes there are limitations and it has eluded them for fifteen years or more - however I am always on the lookout for a pair of glasses as long as they can manage 1080p in 2D.

Just for ease, convenience and compatibility all-own you may as well just get a 40" screen going by that statement.

They look cool. Bit expensive, I think, but would be interesting to try them out... and see if they don't cause eye strain like earlier iterations of such glasses.

But in terms of immersion, I don't think you'd really benefit. As XL-R8R suggests, multiple monitors will do that better!

As it happens, we just received our Occulus Rift Developer kit. Of course I had to put it on as quickly as I could take it out of the box! Very cool!

The Zeiss glasses are a rather static imaging experience, basically watching a fixed big-ish screen up close. You won't get immersiveness from them. The Rift gives you real immersion, though the developer kit resolution isn't fantastic, but is serviceable (supposed to be improved in retail units). If immersion is what you are after, might be better to save up for the OR when it comes out retail. Totally disorienting to turn your head and see nothing but in-game landscapes!

I'm going to have to try some of these and make the decision. I just want to use a device that allows me to only see what's on my screen/display and nothing else; like noise canceling headphones but for visuals..

This is what I'm getting at. And I agree, the developer kit isn't up to snuff with what the consumer version will be, but is better than anything out at this point. I am holding myself off for the consumer version, but really want to get a dev kit.
