Suddenly my water pump started making a clicking sound. I'm wondering if its the pump going bad or some debris in the pump. I recently cleaned it all out and everything was fine, but now it suddenly started ticking or clicking. Anybody ever experience this? The pump is fairly new. Its a custom loop I put together as you all can see in the below video.

Hmm, I don't see any video....

Use the "media" option to insert a youtube video.

It sounds like a mini jackhammer up close, and can also hear it when at 20% pwm, usually it's silent.

Did you let air through its lungs?

What kind of pump is that? It doesn't sound good like there is an obstruction hitting the pump fins.

I recognize that case - Antec 900 right? I had modded mine to put the rad on top (outside) of the case while keeping the 200mm fan.
I still have 2 of them and the big brother 1200 model.

Nope no air has gone through it. Dang this the second 50-x I bought any have a 35-x or 50-x that runs 24/7 a long time? They are rated at 50,000 hours. Yep that's an Antec 900, I used to have both rads in the front with hdd's and cd drive above. The tubing ended up getting kinked under the cd drive I'm thinking of setting it up like that again without the cd drive. How did you mod the 900 for rad up top?

Check to ensure no fans are strinking wires.

Otherwise replace the pump

It sounds like cavitation, probably from lack of net positive suction head (NPSH). It needs a large reservoir mounted well above the pump inlet to let gravity assist.

Sounds like the impeller is hitting the housing or something?

@Good Guru
I recommend getting a big reservoir and sink the pump in.
5 liters suffice
A bonus is that it muffles the pump noise too

Hi,
Only time I've had issues like this is if a water block cpu/ gpu was near or completely clogged.

Dude excessive use of useless anti kink coils man. There is nothing to do just listening to it. Take it a apart and fix it. It's a TT...

That pump is either dead, or has no fluid in it
You sure it's even plumbed correctly, with the out on the res going to the inlet of the pump?

Without telling us anything at all it's damned hard to help

What model is that res? the pump? What fluid is used? What have you done to it recently?

I still have a picture of it. Basically I found some old motherboard standoffs (x4) where the threads had matched my AIO I was using at the time. So I inserted them into the AIO and drilled some holes in the top panel to match the placement of the standoffs in the AIO. then used some screws with washers on the back side of the panel into the standoffs to keep it in place. With fans on top I got some fan grilles to keep fingers and stuff from getting into the fans. In order to get the AIO into the case I used a Dremel to cut out the 120mm fan grille and lined the sharp edges with some small tubing (I had to split) that was normally used to feed water to furnace humidifiers and ziptied the tubing into place. To close the hole I used some blue automotive filter cut to size and weaved zipties through it to close the gap around the tubing. For a custom loop you can probably get away with using the (I think it was 2) existing holes with cable grommets on the back side to run the tubing instead so you don't have to loose the 120mm back fan.

The resevoir is an old thermaltake one, the pump is swiftech mcp 50-x and the fluid is Mayhems Ultra 1 clear. I have'nt done anything to it recently.

Yeah sounds like the pumps on the way out. You gota get a Swifttech MCP 655/ D5 pump. I've got one here that's been going for over 12 years now. Awesome pumps.

Had a few pumps like that and generally that noise means its cactus. Even if its not cactus, the noise of it will drive you insane.

You can try rotating the pump etc to see if that removes the sound.

The vibration of the pump can create that noise as you placed it on wooden desk.
It's like putting a hard disk in the same position you put your pump now.

Try placing a cushion sheet under it and see how it goes.
Looks like your pipe fastener is also touching the pump body.

sound like you have some thing stuck in the impeller bit of o-ring or crud from res or rad, strip it down and give it a clean.

Second the D5. My first lasted 6-7 years 8760 hr/year, the second has only 3-4 to it’s name but is still running. Both silent. See my spec for details.

How did the first one die? Mines still going. What fluid did you use?

Thanks.

Leak as far as I remember, motor short. Expensive pure H2O, small amount of anti-fugus, changed it once

Lol, my pump is swimming in the reservoir for 2 years.
I just use H2O, same one I drink.
