In an old PC with maxwell gpu (gtx 970)
If i open gpu-z and run the render test and the after 10 sec close it, the gpu will continue to run max clock for at least half a minute.
With older drivers this is instant.
This problem don't exist with a 3060.

I don't think Nvidia is really supporting Maxwell anymore. Sure, drivers will say they do, but they're not trying to make sure drivers are working flawlessly for nearly 10 year old GPUs.

General rule of thumb that's worked for me since I can remember when it comes to drivers; if it isn't broke, don't fix it.

Might be just a driver bug. As was said, I doubt that Maxwell gets any sort of priority from NV. Check also if in the NVCP Global settings the Power hasn’t been set to “Prefer Maximum Performance”. You never know.

It is not set on maximum perf. i already checked this.
Only one with maxwell GPU can test this. Anyway it is not a problem.

they still releasing them for newest OS for now but its same driver as one before. for most part they are EOL for optimizations after about 2 gen's. even rtx 2000 series i don't think are getting really any optimization's and even 3000 series probably barely gets much outside indirect optimization's. Windows 11 is more graphic intense then windows before it so probably reason it takes little longer to down clock.
