Hey got a problem... System I use for COD4 is on the right...

Anyways. I'll be playing away in COD4 and when I or any other player (including enemies) calls in an air strike, the frames drops right down and I lag out, even on my own server... Ping rises as well when this happens which shouldn't be happening in a server hosted by my PC...

Suggestions?

This only happens when you're hosting or on any server any game anywhere?

I've yet to notice an issue like that, but I don't host games either. I guess if you can provide a little more detail to the situation and when it does/doesn't occur, unless it always happens no matter what is in order. Definately interesting for sure.

Is this running mods? custom maps? What patch version? 1.7? 1.6?

Happens no matter what the situation whether hosting a LAN with my mates or joining one... It happens in other mods as well... (Can't join internet bad CD key)

Patch is 1.7, Mods are: PeZBot and ModWarfare, No custom maps as of yet...

The lag starts to hapen when you hear "Friendly airstrike on the way" or "Enemy airstike on the way." And doesn't stop lagging until the airstrike is fully over... and the jets are almost gone on the minimap...

Have you done a re-install of the game by chance?

I'd contact Infinity Ward/Activision and tell them your key is bad, unless you didn't purchase the game..though I will say when my G/F was into CoD4 we both played online on the same key for a while and only had one PB kick for 5 minute issue because of it. That was back in the 1.4-1.5 patch days tho. Not saying it should be done.

I haven't played CoD4 on LAN, just SP and MP online...and I've never seen this issue...your rig should be plenty capable of handeling this game w/o much issue for sure. Does this only affect you or other players on the LAN? I would say try a fresh install..just make sure to backup the Players folder before you do.

:toast:

Re-installed heaps of times man pretty much sick of it... It only affects me no one else unless I'm the host....

Have you tried setting affinity to the server to 2 cores then the game to 2 cores while playing....maybe the airstrike is too intensive to allow both to sort themselves out.

Hang on do you have to be ingame to do it???

it has to be running then windows flight or atl tab out ...yes. then set the affinity!

I had what looks like this very problem. It only occured whilst playing Multi Player online. Single player was fine. Sure, my graphics card was not the fastest ever, but it was above the minimum spec for COD4.

No matter how I tried to run and hide, when the airstrike came in I started lagging and spluttering around. I could even be deep in a tunnel and couldn't see the airstrike and the lag would still happen. So it couldn't be the graphics card cause it wasn't displaying anything to do with the strike. Almost always got killed like some noob.:banghead:

I am willing to bet that you have CA Antivirus or CA Security Centre on your PC.

After some serious digging on the net forums, I read a post on COD HQ in Nov 2007 that said it could be due to CA Antivirus. (Also part of CA Security Centre) I added the COD4 directory to the CA exceptions list and it fixed the lag.

Solution: Modify the CA Security Centre Options ; Real-Time scanner Exclusions to exclude the "C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare" directory. Save the settings and say goodbye to lag.
You could also snooze the AV protection from the control panel each time you run the game, but don't forget to unsnooze it when you are finished. I wouldn't recommend turning it off or uninstalling. After all you've payed for the program, so why not use it.

Handy hint - if you want to prove this is your problem before going to the trouble of adding exceptions, just snooze the AV for a few minutes and try the game. If the lag is fixed then you have your answer.

Why does it do this?- From what I can tell CA Antivirus has a real time scanner that checks files for viruses as they are downloaded. The COD server sends a file to your PC containing the direction, speed, timing etc of the airstrike and CA AV says "Hang on a minute, I have to check this for viruses." so the game just clogs up waiting and causes major lag and stuttering.

Hope it works for you ;) I know it will

I dont have this problem but thanks to you I'll know what to do if I see or hear of this form of lag.

Good post.

from what NSD has said, disable antivirus. A defrag could also help, as it would be loading files to do the airstrike (even on my system, i sometimes see lag when airstrikes happen, usually the HDD light goes spaz while its at it)

I was getting that also every time an strike was called. every server and every map and only during an air strike......then one day it stoped and has not happened again, I think it had something to do with my anitvirus software but not sure.

Hey Mussels, I wouldn't recommend disabling the antivirus all together.

The solution I recommend is specific only to CA Antivirus and involves just setting some exceptions to the real time scanning it does. If you fully disable it, sure it will solve this problem, but it also leaves your system without protection on email, etc.

Not saying that you have CA, but for those who do and get airstrike lag it's easy to see if CA is causing the problem, Just snooze it while you play a game of COD 4 and if the airstrike lag disappears, then add the COD 4 folder to the CA exceptions list. The rest of your system will still be protected!

Oh yeh, a defrag allways helps too.
