As the title says..

It was always working before, the only change is that I'm using a 1440p G-Sync monitor now vs 1080p before...

When I click the shortcut I get that little window from Steam a second and then nothing, also nothing in the taskmanager.

Tried modifying some XML files to change resolution to 1440p in it, which didn't work...

Also checking file integrity didn't help.

Anyone:confused:

(GRID 2 does start)

reboot steam/system

Delete/backup the xml. when you lauch it might work again. I remember when you switch monitors with some games shit happens like this.

If that fails...I would get/try the nocd crack for it.

Did you edit the hardware_settings_restrictions.xml file to remove the line of code that restricts it from using a res higher than 1440x900?

There is a setting to select the screen aspect ratio. The default setting is "Normal", an auto mode that always follows the current resolution's AR.
Selecting a specific ratio will stretch the screen to match the selection. Ratios available: 4:3, 5:4, 16:10, 16:9, 5:3.

An important thing to note is that the game does not support resolutions above 1440x900 and 1280x1024 if a graphic card with less than 512mb is detected. The game might incorrectly detect the amount of vram when using newer graphics cards, which will lock you out of using higher resolutions. Follow these steps to solve this problem:

1) Look for your hardware_settings_restrictions.xml file in your 'system' folder (default for steam version: C:\Steam\steamapps\common\grid\system\), and make a backup.

2) Open the file with Notepad. Scroll down to the bottom, remove the following entry and save the file:

data
res mem="270" maxWidth="1280"
/data

Could also be Steam wanting to run through the Steam Setup process again for the redist. folder (VS runtime/DX Setup.) Just had it happen to me after the latest patch for Prey 2017. To bad Prey flagged my saved game checkpoints as corrupted after the patch, :( no issues before though.

Is it possible changing the monitor has caused the game/Steam to re-run the initial setup?

Tried that, didn't help, it didn't even come that far that it created new files...

1) Look for your hardware_settings_restrictions.xml file in your 'system' folder (default for steam version: C:\Steam\steamapps\common\grid\system\), and make a backup.

Tried that as well yesterday, didn't work.

I guess I leave it as is for now... :ohwell:

Sorry for digging this up but I found the solution!

Today I reinstalled GRID and at first the same problem, unable to get the game running at 1440p...

I finally found a solution on the steam community:

I'm running Windows 10, 2560x1440 monitor, 1080Ti, and as noted earlier, I also had to delete the "hardware_settings_restrictions.xml" file completely, otherwise my game would either limit the resolution I could use to something really low, or crash on startup. Thanks for the help!"

So I went ahead and removed hardware_settings_restrictions.xml file in the 'system' folder completely and that worked! :peace:
