Combined Graphics + Windows 7

Hello. I need help with solving an issue and need to make sure I am doing it right before I get started on this project. I think I have what I need now to get a 12,000 score in Vantage with the parts I have using Windows 7. What I need to know is if these parts will work on the motherboard I bought, though I guess now they should, but I should ask just in case.

Parts to be used:
Gigabyte GA-X48-DS5 CrossfireX PCI-Ex x16 x2 @ x16 / DDR2
XFX 9800GTX+ PhysX CUDA
HD4870 1GB
Windows 7 64bit

Basically I should just be able to put the parts in and fire it up right? Where can i ask about qualifying driver sets as well as from what I have read recently has been an issue for some. Nvidia forums perhaps, ATI forums also. OK.

So any techies out there who know more than I do at this point maybe want to point out in the right direction? OK Bad idea. SO all I need to know is if these cards will work on a CrossfireX board in Windows 7 using which drivers?

Ok. Sorry for my last post and this thre ad too. I just want to know if ati and nvidia will work on a xfirE mb cause I have only read about it working on sli platforms so far? Also what limitations or risks are involved also need drivers. too )

OK guys i am back everythings installed / 9800GTX+ / HD4870 / 2x PCI Ex x16 / Windows 7. But I have a problem. Just before the login screen in Windows 7 the screens go blank and and nothing happens. I am only here now with this setup because I have logged in in Safe mode. So any help? I have two screens plugged into the ATI card and the nvidia card is free. Currently both screens are functioning, but only in safe mode. Blah. I read somewhere that you have to disable a screen and only run on one. I shall try this and let you know.

OK basically it was having two screens that made it not work. Actually what do I do now, here's a screenie of The Device Manager for your eyes only :>}

Would anyone recommend using the driver cd that came with the nvidia card? Cause if they work that is good, but they are only Vista. What kind of compatibility issues might I face with that issue?

I've been so swamped with ATI Cypress, and now Juniper testing that I originally missed this story, but starting with ForceWare 186, NVIDIA apparently disabled PhysX support when a Radeon card is detected. This includes gamers who own PPU cards from BFG and ASUS who would like to pair them with a Radeon GPU (as I did here with Mirrors Edge earlier this year).
On this topic, NVIDIA says:

"Physx is an open software standard any company can freely develop hardware or software that supports it. Nvidia supports GPU accelerated Physx on NVIDIA GPUs while using NVIDIA GPUs for graphics. NVIDIA performs extensive Engineering, Development, and QA work that makes Physx a great experience for customers. For a variety of reasons - some development expense some quality assurance and some business reasons NVIDIA will not support GPU accelerated Physx with NVIDIA GPUs while GPU rendering is happening on non- NVIDIA GPUs. I'm sorry for any inconvenience caused but I hope you can understand."
Back when GPU PhysX was first launched, NVIDIA mentioned the complexity of properly testing and validating various GPU combinations for PhysX -- this explanation sounds similar to what we were told back then. However it doesn't explain why dedicated PPUs can no longer be paired with Radeon cards, a feature we've used successfully with no problems in the past.
In any case, an NGOHQ forum user by the name of GenL has released an unofficial "patch" that disables NVIDIA's Radeon PhysX lockout. Note: this patch applies only to Windows 7 users. (Unlike Vista, Windows 7 allows the installation of more than one graphics driver simultaneously.) 32-bit and 64-bit patches are provided by GenL, but unfortunately a workaround hasn't been developed for Radeon users with PPU cards...yet.

The ATI card is probably being deactivated by the NVIDIA card's driver, as NVIDIA added that "feature" to prevent using an ATI card for graphics and an NVIDIA card for PhysX. I think you need modded drivers for that.

EDIT: Oh wait, I think it just disables PhysX.

Crazy stuff on that patch. WOW. It didn't work anyway. I was waiting for a restart windows to appear, but it never did. SO I clicked on finish ran the patch and then manually restarted. No PhysX yet.

OK. Loading 185 drivers now. Plan B is to load original driver cd Vista only patch. So maybe it might work cause some XP only patches worked on vista in the early daYs.

System hung on installation had to disable ATI card. After install, no physx when ati card enable.

Just one last question. Is it safe to unplug the monitor connected to the nvidia card?

dude what u do is u install ur ati drivers first, get them set up how u want ie: image quality settings etc. then install the nvidia drivers but do not restart (or do not click finish if it doesn't ask u to restart)...run the physx patch, then restart. Once ur back in windows u shud be able to go into your display settings and u click on "detect displays" or something like that...then u'll see ur 9800 in the selection..select it and then force it to use VGA..and extend ur desktop. u'll then be able to see the nvidia control panel when u right click on desktop. this is what i did to get my 5850xfire + 9800gt to work

Well, this works clean up on Windows 7 I'm using ATI 5850 + NVIDIA 9800 GTX. Basically only thing there is to it is NVIDIA drivers first + patch monitor attached only to it while POSTing and second cable same monitor, if possible to ATI card and CCC drivers straight after NVIDIA ones.

It works straight up as long you got monitor attached to both (or simply little fake Display with DVI->VGA adapter).

But my question is why or what there would be in Windows Vista Service Pack 2 + Platform update for Vista not beeing able to do this same thing. I think the screenshots people are taking on Vista systems with other card disabled / errored out is only because there's no monitor connected or no patch applied or basically just bad drivers are used. (I do know DNA-ATI build some kind of 'Hybrid' Killer...[something was the fellows name] would love to hear where he got as all I see on those web pages now is Enzyme and Nucleic drivers. Which I have no clue what for they were build in the first place if other than tweaking.)

Can anyone confirm with latest Vista SP2 with Platform update that this ATI+NVIDIA wouldn't work? (Just trying to not waist time myself, if there's actual something in the Vista still after platform update which would not allow 'Compined'/'Mixed' GPU scheme)
