Command & Conquer 4 Screens and info

if its any consolation then i like total war better and supreme commander is the game you should play

Supreme Commander is good. Total War...not a fan of turn-based strategy games. Well, some turned-based games I really liked like Jagged Alliance 2 and C.O.P.S. 2170. They are turn-based action games though rather than strategy. I fell asleep playing Civilization games too. :(

I never fell asleep playing Supreme Commander, Earth 2150, Earth 2160, or any of the Command & Conquer games. Actually, I think turn-based strategy games earn the sole put-me-to-sleep distinction. Thoroughly boredifying.

DOWN WITH C&C, STARCRAFT II WILL REIGN SUPREME!!!!!!! :) lol, well C&C will have lan so i'll probly uh buy it from demonoid.com :P. screens look great.

civilization and total war are 2 different beasts

its like total war you actually control the units on the battlefield whereas the turn based is used to build and move armies

civilization is not a bore dont insult civ, come one someone back me up on this

command and conquer right so generals is the best CnC LOL some fan CnC fan you are i always thought it and sole survivor were the worst as far as storyline and units went, as for core gameplay they are all similar

The battlefield battles took so long and are so repetitive that they become tedious (a means to an end). As such, it effectively become a solely turn-based strategy game to me.

I think I would rate Renegades as my favorite (FPS + RTS elements = awesomeness). Generals/Zero:Hour and Red Alert 2 tie for second. Renegade is about the only one with a decent story but even that was average at best. It had characters that were meaningful to the plot which were lacking from pretty much all the other games. You could argue that, for instance, Tonya in the Red Alert games fulfilled the same role as Renegade but, beyond the occasional cutscene and ordering her about on the field, it really didn't matter when she died because most of the time, you could just respawn her. At least the player develops some attachment to the characters of Renegade.

An RTS that demonstrates how story is supposed to work is Ground Control II. You play as a single commander that is addressed by name which has specific relationships that you are reminded of on pretty much every mission. When you lose Sgt. Rho, for instance, it isn't "oh, that sucks." It is "ZOMG, that SUCKS."

I highly doubt C&C4 will change that trend, if any.

generals is a stand alone title, like the red alerts. they have their own universe and storylines.

C&C tiberium, red alert, and generals are the three so far - although generals is the only one without a sequel.

How can you get attached to a unit in a RTS? Okay you can get attached to the character but its not the same as a RPG is it? RTS arnt built on hard character development.

Ground Control is a perfect example of a good rts, its different from normal rts that you dont build up a base or extract resource for income and it had a good story to it.

Command and Conquer is based on the character Kane and a whole universe built around the game, thats it if you hate Kane you must have a brain condition because one of the best characters in a game ever. Red Alert is based on alternative reality and if you notice it is a bit Fkd up as Kane is in the first one which is weird so i think originally it was meant to be a prequal or something. Generals is the odd one out made from the EA money and marketing machine, its clearly meant to replicate a not to distant modern times.

The same could be said about command and conquer tho the same thing over and over mine tiberium or whatever equivalent and then build units. Its pretty much send em all in, group them if you want but micro management to the point where you need to click individual units is not handy in a large scale battle. The tactics involved in a total war game are so superior to any normal rts and the campaign map is a means to an end to a real time battle. The campaign map allows you to control the whole game its not just missions thrown at you.

Renegade was good but not that good one of those run of the mill fps set in the CnC universe, i dont remember the RTS elements in it? I thought it was just based on an RTS.

DO NOT confuse boredom with sheer misunderstanding or lack of taste in games, games like Civ and Total War take patience and skill.

Starcraft is pretty good too. Im not arguing dont over Civ and other games that are clearly great games, get CnC4 or dont get it but im not making my mind up till its nearly out and i see some reviews. Ive seen games that looked good but where pretty shit when i played em so hopefully its at least as good as 3.

As an owner of the original Gold box the giant one that had the bonus covert missions disk, Generals was a bit of a average game to me another run of the mill RTS. I dont know where it gets it s fans from certainly not orignal CnC ones.

I never became attached to Kane. His character just never transcended from cutscene/movie to personal attachment. No character in any C&C game did except in Renegade (Mobius, Havok).

Power plants supply power to base defenses, airport allows you access to aircraft, infantry barracks allows you access to advanced infantry units, etc. You couldn't build buildings but you had to defend them. All buildings have specific strategic value.

Kieran: the C&C games are 'lite' RTS. they're a very simple game. get income, fight the rock/paper/scissors game until you get the uber units, spam 50 of that unit, attack, rinse repeat.

Cant speak for civ or ground control, but i know that while supcom and sins of a solar empire follow the same basic idea (gather resources, build armies) they're totally different in how you PLAY the game.

the C&C games are being designed to finish in ~30 minutes in MP, while supcom its 1-2 hours, and sins... well, that can take weeks in a huge game, thanks to its save feature.

ford: play the allied campaign in RA3... the eva chick demands your attachment. *drool*

I did (Uprising too).

Seeing as I had to Google RA3 to remember the name and then Google Image the name to remember the face, it clearly wasn't a memorable character.

She (Gemma Atkinson) certainly demanded my attachment when she appeared in the FMVs but, not long after she was off the screen, she was out of mind.

I completely agree about uber units. In C&C (Renegade, Tiberum Wars, Tiberum Sun, original, and presumably 4), it is the Mammoth tank. In Generals, it was the Overlord tank, Aurora jet, and Flak Artillery (fully upgraded). In Red Alert, it was Dreadnought ships and Mirage tanks.

you can tell all her stuff was done in three shoots, cause her cleavage only has two positions, and the finale in the dress... yeah, i was paying attention to her boobies.

everyone has a favourite unit - usually the overpowering ones, or the one that suits their strategy best.

-implies a facepalm-

LOL

C&C 3 was alright altho I did get bored pretty easily when ya are fighting an endless battle (you send, you die, they send, they die) Sometimes I just shut the game off b/c its pointless fighting for hours and its a stalemate. I play on hard so that may be my problem lol.

Hopefully C&C 4 is better as to the different units and it has totally different weapons for each faction to use as said in another game a few posts earlier. I will be waiting patiently for this!

Tesla tanks.

NEED MOAR TESLA TANKS! :pimp:

I hope it's 64bit compatable, unlike C&C3. Did anyone every get 3 to work on an x64 OS?

It worked fine on Windows XP Professional x64 Edition. I don't even remember any crashes.

it is a shame they never made a sequel to renegade. i thk C&C could have a decent FPS series or game if they put money into it and gave it a good storyline, i mean that's the basis for any game but a C&C FPS would intrigue me, jsut like renegade did. I mean shoot if Renegade's AI was smart then i'd still play the game. Shame multiplayer never got anywhere.

I've played every C&C except renegade...avoided it because I believe the C&C universe was never meant for the FPS genre. But I loved 3, and liked Kanes Wrath. But for 4 to be successful, they're gonna have to do much more than 3 brought to the table. I used to consider 3 my quick and furious RTS game, with SupCom my more strategic and serious RTS. Well WiC and Warammer 40K II replaced 3 in the action respect, and SupCom still trudges on. Really I would like to see an action and classic elemnt to C&C, though split as seperate entities. I have faith that C&C 4 will rock, but I really miss the true Westwood Studios tbh.

One game I would really love to see revived was the game that truly got me hooked online gaming, Command & Conquer Sole Survivor. That was an amazing game for it's day and age, something truly unique, though not a very well executed attempt, it was very fun and extremely addictive, playing was very competetive, teamwork was required, it was an amazing experience. Sole Survivor II would be amazing even if it used 3's engine and the same execution imo because it was something so effing fun and simple to play and work with. I used to play it w/o lag on a 19.2K AOL connection back in the late 90's...and what could be done now would truly be amazing and something I think they would truly have a solid success upon. Even if it was a $50 game I'd probably get it over many upcoming titles, because of the insane amount of hours of true enjoyment I recieved from the original.

Sole Survivor Clan SSDragons FTW! :rockout:
