i have a syncmaster 913N and i got this error "not optimum mode 1280 - 960 60 hz"

thats the error: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hx6tAg0fKf0 (not my monitor)

i changed to every resolution i can and nothing happened (everything at 60hz)

i know that error occurs when the refreshrate is higher than the refreshrate that the monitor can handle

i did everything i know and nothing happened...

i brought the monitor to a PC guy and he told me that its a common samsung problem and there is no fix... i dont believe him

if you have any ideas post :)

manually setting the res and refresh rate using menu on monitor, try using different type of connection like vga or dvi then if its not working google and then contact samsung and last resort RMA the monitor for a repair or new one

stupid question, what is the factory refresh rate of the monitor?

run it at the native resolution.
It should be 1280x1024 @ 60hz.

Also, fill out your system specs.

Hello, I know this sounds to easy.

Try this... un-plug the monitor from the electric socket for 1 min or more(sometimes needed)... Now, plug it back in and see if that clears the problem.:)

And make sure your cables are secure at the video card and the monitor.

actually, something just occured to me.

My monitor does the same coming out of sleep mode on the HDMI port, i just hit the "exit menu" button on the screen.

Many Samsung LCD monitors have problems with menu appearing for no reason. For a fact I know that 720N 710N do similar things.

:shadedshuEven Samsung CRT TV`s does that, my remedy is Ived put a small aluminum heatsink on the SYSTEM CONTROL IC (MICOM) to make it cooler, try ventilating the back portion using an electric fan just to test if symptoms persist, if not then I think you need to feel the heads of the IC`s on which one gets hot then put a heat spreader (Aluminum) to dissipate the heat efficiently, I think its one of thier IC construction fault, it gets unstable sometimes when it gets a little bit hot:shadedshu

I have a friend with this kind of problem, sometimes the menu will just pop-up in the middle of his game:laugh:, Ived put a small aluminum heat sinks on the LCD controller IC`s at the back, until now it never occured again.

Samsung 710N also hot chip

Having the same problem, "not optimum mode", and changing computers and cables did not help. Opened the monitor and found the processor runs too hot to touch. A spray of circuit cooler brings the monitor back to life.

I did the same fix last night. I found a heatsink in my parts box and attached it with the double sided tape that comes with north bridge and VRAM heat sinks.

So far so good. When the house warms up later today I will find out if this is enough or if it needs a fan. Unfortunately I think the cost of a replacement logic board would be as much as a new monitor; it is out of warranty.
