Comparison of old and new gpu reviews

When comparing cards like gtx 1070,1070 ti and 1080 why is there in some cases a big difference in fps although there shuldn't be

System setup i7 6700k 4.5ghz and i7 7000k 4.8ghz other that that the same specs, is it only because of the gpu driver and the differnce of 0.3ghz on the cpu ? Game optimizing ?

Comparison of the stock gtx 1070 the difference is as big as gtx 1070 vs 1080 or 1080 vs 1080 ti , but the main diffrence is only gpu driver and 0.3ghz, why is there such a difference ? Game optimizing ?

Even at stock the gtx 1080 ti shouldn't be that faster since both are GP104 gpu's, 256 bit memory bus width,same ram speed and only a differnce of 12mhz on the gpu (1595 and 1607mhz)

Different scene and test duration for those two games specifically. Sometimes I change settings too

@gasolin I don’t see the huge differences you are talking about. In your examples though, which appear to be comparing AIB cards versus reference 1070 card, the AIB is almost always going to outperform due to better cooling or chokes or more power phases, or more power delivery, or any combination thereof.

You don't think that is a huge difference when the biggeste diffrence is the cpu i7 6700k 4.5ghz and a i7 7700k 4.8ghz and gpu drivers/game optimizing.

Gtx 1070 gta v 75.7 fps vs 102.2 fps is not the difference between a gtx 1070 and an gtx 1080 it's between a gtx 1070 and a gtx 1070.

Immature drivers for any particular game, as well as new cpu and motherboards can and will make a big difference. CPU architecture improvements in pushing data to the GPU are not to be discounted.

Motherboards can make a big difference, too. Have you ever looked at motherboards in their gaming comparison sections? With the same cpu and memory on ten different motherboards I have seen 10-12 FPS difference just like that.

So obviously a new gen motherboard and cpu can make a good difference in testing.

The only glaring difference is GTA V which boils down to a mere 2.4 FPS.

I expect the result of the gtx 1070 from let's say 2017 and than a year later to be very close, i don't what to guees why the card get let's say get's 20 fps more 1 year later, way more than 10% increase and 10% difference between an i7 6700k at 4.5 ghz and i7 7700k at 4.8 there isn't i7 7700k vs i7 6700k.

Look at a gtx 1080 in gta v 91.3 fps but a year or so later a gtx 1070 score in the same game ,resolution 102.2 fps, so my gtx 1080 with all the updates should almost perform like a gtx 1180 or gtx 1080 ti when it was released?

Then don't look at reviews a year later. The review can only indicate what FPS a game plays at that time. If a game performs better a year later, there may be many factors...I don't understand why you think it should be the same. You should be happy that W1zzard goes through the trouble of retesting all those cards instead of just using the old numbers (which would mean nothing because of the numerous changes I already talked about).

Compare a gtx 1070 to a gtx 1080 boom one year later a gtx 1070 score more than a gtx 1080 when it was new about 20-25 fps increase in 1 year.

If to gpus where tested with the same games,resolution and the cpu doesn't make a noticeable diffrence i want to be able compare old result,score to new results,scores

Sigh.....what you need to compare a year later is the year old GTX 1070 to the year old GTX 1080. That is all that matters a year later.

BUT not every card oc's the same and most cards are oc'ed from the factory, only thing that is comparable dispite the time they where tested is noise, power consumption.

Like the gtx 1070 ti is a fairly new card, i can't expect them to test a gtx 1070 again to get updated results.score (some do) that can be compared to a gtx 1070 ti or every new card you want to compare against the gtx 1070 or 1070 ti

I tend to agree with you, and good catch. The difference is a lot more than I'd expect (game and driver optimization included), but as W1zzard mentioned, different scenes are used. So it's all relative.

Correct. W1zzard only keeps the base or reference model. So a year later he is only testing that one 1070 for instance, not the entire stable of AIB cards he did a review on when they released.

That can be slightly confusing buy a gtx 1070 and 1 year later have gtx 1080 peformance (relative to new stock gtx 1080 vs a highly optimized non oc'ed gtx 1070)

Would that be a review? Stock gtx 1080 with first driver and a game as it was when released vs a highly optimzied (driver) gtx 1070 with the same game with all of it's updates

Something like buy a new gpu or just use your old gpu with the most optimized/updated drivers,games?
