Computer powers up for 1 second

Now the computer is completely dead, won´t even power on for a second,it does nothing at all,and those damn Socket A motherboards are hard to find here in Sweden, they are also pretty expensive.

i have a feeling its your psu, mines doing the same, when its been off all night i turn it on and it starts, resets, starts resets 3-4 times in total and then boots up fine, im pretty sure its my psu as i bought it off ...... yes i bought it off ebay

anyway i know the rest of my system is bang on and there could be nothing else doing this so it has to be the psu, btw mines a 430w ocz powerstream psu 1x12v rail@30a

I might know your problem and solution but first i need to know the type of MB you have and power supply
get back to me

hey

well i am a computer tech (i work at a small shop)

this is what you should do and you've done most of the steps..

first if you can..get that foamy sheet that comes in the motherboard box if not than find a static free surface to put JUST THE MOTHERBOARD on top of...

ok so the motherboard is on the counter (lets say that for now) and you got everything unhooked...take out a power supply (Concidering you have 3) make sure you choose the working one, than the ram and a cpu (all working i hope)... hook it up ontop of the counter (pretend its the computer case hehe) if you can take a screw driver, and where the "power switch pins" are, jump the unit with a screw driver (flat head if you have it so you dont hit other pins) see if it powers on like this, if it does chances are theres a short somewhere on the board hitting the computer case causing it to short out and not turn on/power down in one second.

if it powers on, just to make sure, shut it down hook up all the items one by one (hdd, gpu, extra ram, cd drives)

if it doesnt power up, chances are its a dead mobo, if it is a socket A, than it is probably a good age old, but yeah try that first ;)

joinmeindeath: Ive already done those things.
The computer is completely dead..

Paladin: I think its a ECS mobo.
The PSU is from FSP Group, its on 290W.

im suprised no one has said this to you yet, reset your motherboard. check your manual or go online if you cant find that than its usualy a tiny jumper with that sits on 2 out of 3 pins move that jumper to the other pin for around 10 to 30 seconds than move it back. this should reset it
i had a ton of problems with my mobo booting up for a few seconds than going blank.

and also if you want to find out if your psu is broke you can listen to it, just get your ear near it power it up with the juice from the wall and see if you hear any electrical sounds. lol sounds weird but other than having a multimeter thats the only way you can check

oh and i have a socket a motherboard, its soyo

Hi DaPunisha,

i didn´t know that ebay.se has no such category like "computer" at all.
Socket A boards are indeed hard to find these days.

There´s one ebay.de link I found, where a new MSI 6570E K7N2 Delta2-LSR board is offered for EUR 50,99 plus EUR 15,00 shipping to all European countries.

But you could also sell your Socket A CPU and buy a 939 board with AGP support plus CPU (i.e. AMD64 3700+ SanDiegos are cheap good deals these days).

Welcome to TPU! :)

um you mean clear cmos? its been said already. taking the battery out will do this aswell ;)

so if its not making any funny noises then his psu is fine? i think not, it doesnt have to sound like that for there to be a fault with it either.

personally i would strip it entirlely and rebuild step by step (double checking everything!!)
failing that try your parts in another machine one by one. the only problem with this is finding someone with a rig you can use/test your parts in.

my vote is its the mobo,

if as your saying is correct you have tried everything there is to try and still no juice

(literally h:roll: )

but yeah ebay it up or something...or maybe ..get out of the socket A world and onto s939 or even 754 is a good upgrade from socket A

and 754 is really cheap

939 alil more but still cheap

AM2 current but they have alot of good deals on single core cpus
