Computer problems....

Ok so i'm posting this under software, though it could very easily be put in hard ware too...
I recently got a new computer, in january. i never had a problem with it.. then i reformatted and whenever i get into certain programs, games, internet explorer, firefox, adobe acrobat, it gives me "(program name) has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." Send Error report, errors. sometimes even my computer will give me a blue screen and just restart randomly. When it starts up it says computer has just had a critical error, (send error report). occasionally the error report will take me to a page that says i either need to update my graphics driver (which it is) or turn my hardware acceleration down... Please help.. i really hope my graphix card isnt dead...


basic system information is:

Windows XP Professional

Intel Core CPU
6600 @ 2.4 Ghz
2.4 Ghz, 2.00 GB of Ram


Nvidia Geforce 7950 GX2

did you overclock or running anything out of spec? What psu are you using? I had those problems during my overclocking. Could be heat or dirty power.

Hi there.

After formatting. Did you update Windows to the latest updates?
Which drivers are you using for your videocard?
And did you instal all the rest of the systems drivers?

yes, i should say i've reformatted it twice, havign teh same problem for each, at first i thought it was jsut a bad re-install. on the second reformat, the first thing i did was update everything, went into the hardware manager and update each driver for everything... i have over clocking capabilities, but havent touched it yet. im using the asus p5n32-sli se deluxe gaming motherboard and it comes with drivers and programs to overclock it and manage my temperature. the driver for my graphics card, first i got the one that windows downloaded for me.. then i actually went to nvidia.com and got their latest driver because i was still having problems

Because you mentioned multiple problems i'm not sure to say what it is.
I think it could be a driver problem for your videocard.
Do you have any problems playing games?

i donno if it helps, but it may help to tell you what i do on the computer... im in art school for game art and design, im using some pretty hefty programs, 3D Studio Max, Maya, zbrush, mudbox... could they have taken a toll on my computer? I bought this computer so i wouldn't have a problem with these programs... conveniently i haven't had a problem with these programs.. unconveniently.. it's hard to do anything when ur internet explorer randomly stops working..

my games will randomly shut off and i get the same error report... just like almost every other program i have..

And you really should go to all the sites and get the latest drivers. Especialy for your motherboard. Also you could look for a bios update for your board. it's very easy to do with a Asus board. Install Asus update. Then go to their site and download the latest bios file and use the update manager to flash the bios.

For using 3d apps i would not worry. My friend runs those progrmas on a 9800.lol.
Takes way to long to render and stuff but it works.
Your pc would be just fine for that.
I really think it's driver or hardware problem. But first try updating all drivers.

I am more and more thinking about your videocard.
I also know many people have problems with their Nvidia cards conflicting with other hardware.
Not to throw mud at Nvidia but if you look at their forums you will see many have similar problems.

Do you have a different card to test?

soo the bios update is in a .rom file... how do i use it lol

Please post a list of all running processes when this anomaly happens.

Disable virusscanner and the rest of your running programs before updating.
Asus update is on the Asus cd that came with your board.

hmm.. i donno because is till have the box to my motherboard and everything it it says NVidia Sli Ready...

also, Nvidia nforce 4 sli intel edition, sli x16

i would think that means it was compatible with the video card.. unless theres still some issues their working on..

also go into system logs and look at the errors under applications and under system

go to MyComputer right click and select manage , hit the + sign next to EventViewer and highlight applications take a look for errors and then high light System and look for errors.

would posting a dxdiag help? i donno how to find problems with it, but i had trouble with my video card on my last computer and people asked for it.. heheh

yea, i have quite a few errors and quite a few warnings.. if i restarted will those errors still show up?

ive got a bunch of application errors, MsInstaller a couple times, VSS ?, and some winmgmt warnings

for some reason i have a windows product activation warning..?

Double click the line entries with errors and post screenies.In both applications and system. dont post duplicates though
