Computer turning on/off problem...

Hey guys, I just disassembled my old computer (athlon xp 2800+, radeon 9200) for my brother and put it in a better case with a new fan.

Problem is when turn it on at the wall, it just turns straight on and boots up. (I'm pretty sure this used to happened before I switched cases). But now I can't turn it off through holding the power button down for a few seconds (it locked up). I'm pretty sure everything is plugged in right in the inside.

Just cut power from it, open it up, recheck everything and try again. Make sure all of the heatsinks in your system (CPU, GPU) are properly seated with thermal paste and make sure everything is plugged in.

Just did that, and I found out what the problem was with the power switch (just needed a adapter thing from the old case). But the computer still turns on when turned on at the wall. Also, it comes up with CMOS error just after the screen where you can get into bios and it doesn't remember the time, date or bios settings.

You either need to reset your bios with the cmos jumper or by pulling out the motherboard battery. Then go back into the bios and set things back up.

Well, I just reset with the CMOS jumper, then updated the BIOS to 3.17 but it still has those problems. It doesn't remember my BIOS settings and comes up with a checksum error and it has loaded the default settings. This only happens when I turn it off at the wall. It also turns straight on when turned on at the wall.

Would the instant on at the wall problem be a PSU problem?

Just a little bit of extra information about the computer incase it's needed;

Compaq Presario S3270AN
- Athlon XP 2800+
- ASUS A7N8X-LA (BIOS: 3.17)
- Radeon 9200

Are you 100% sure that the cords for the reset button and power button are in the correct places on the motherboard?
