Core Clock Crash

When i use the "find max core clock" button the core clock goes from 400 to 500 then 550 then 600 then my computer crashes and turns off. Is the clock speed meant to go up by such large amounts at a time.

ps. im useing a gigabyte 256 7300gt ddr2, Atitool 0.26 and XP.
