Corsair Memory Inc., the worldwide leader in design and manufacture of high performance memory, today announced immediate adoption of Enhanced Performance Profiles (EPP). Jointly developed by Corsair and NVIDIA as a new open memory standard, Enhanced Performance Profiles elevate memory performance by taking full advantage of the additional memory parameters that are now added to the unused portion of the JEDEC standard Serial Presence Detect (SPD). As a new open standard, immediate adoption by motherboard manufacturers and other memory manufacturers is expected.

said John Beekley, VP of Applications Engineering at Corsair Memory. To take full advantage of the Enhanced Performance Profiles, motheboards designed with a special BIOS can recognize the presence of EPP settings. Once these settings are enabled, the system boots directly into the memory's specified settings and takes immediate advantage of the increased performance. The first product from Corsair with the new

uh... did i just read that, EPP is a new feature in ram? and that it uses left over space on the SPD to tell your mobo about im guessing ram timings and frequencies?

im sorry...but if this is new...then what did the SPD tell your mobo before EPP?

wasnt it things like

model name
serial number
memory type
module type
memory timings, speed, refresh rate, bit rate, operation modes
this is to name a few things...

so wtf does EPP do again?

Well if it makes my ram perform better I'm happy... I mean when I actually get round to upgrading.

It provides details to the motherboard that SPD has continued to fail to provide. Such as overclocked settings, voltages, extended timings.. there are a lot of timings that are left out of the SPD and are up to mobo manufacturers to decide upon. This is an excellent technological improvement in ram... :)
