Corsair, a worldwide leader in high-performance PC components, today announced the availability of the Dominator Platinum Series DDR4 3400MHz 16GB memory kits which debuted at CES in January. The new kits are performance tuned to run air-cooled at an incredible 3400MHz and beyond on the Gigabyte X99-SOC Champion motherboard. The memory and motherboard duo together create one of the highest performance enthusiast PC platforms currently available.

The fastest DDR4 memory available from Corsair, the Dominator Platinum 3400MHz 16GB (4x4GB, 16-18-18-36) memory kits have a striking industrial with an orange anodized heat spreader that matches the color scheme on Gigabyte SOC motherboards. Like all Dominator Platinum memory modules, the new kits have patented DHX technology for cooler operation, user-swappable colored "light pipes" for customizable downwash lighting, and Corsair Link compatibility for real-time temperature monitoring. Dominator Platinum memory is built with hand-screened ICs, undergoes rigorous performance testing, and incorporates state-of-the-art cooling for reliable performance in demanding environments.

On March 20, professional overclocker Hicookie set the world record for fastest DDR4 memory frequency using the Corsair Dominator 3400MHz DDR4 memory and Gigabyte X99-SOC Champion motherboard. Using liquid nitrogen, Hicookie established a record-breaking speed of 4365.6MHz.

Is it really necessary to make memory cooling solutions, with this extra height? How much does it really benefits compared to memory cooling solutions that have the same height, as the PCB itself?
 
999.99 someone could build me a better computer for that much instead
 
I can't imagine anyone will actually buy these, most likely the only people using them are people that got free samples from Corsair.

Standard DDR4 frequency should be much higher if they want people to switch to something which has major improvement over DDR3.
 
I don't know I still like the original Dominator series look (both stock and extended):

That's like twice the value of my PC atm.
 
That price wouldn't even be worth even if those RAMs were at 5Ghz and at 64GB capacity.
I still think is a typo, and they are of by a 9....

Top mounted cooling is completely unnecessary on DDR3 or DDR4 DRAM. It's strictly a marketing gimmick as these DIMMs typically draw ~12 watts power and the side heatsinks are more than adequate.

In addition testing with real apps shows no tangible system performance gains with DDR3 RAM above 1600 MHz. for CPU powered desktops because DDR3 running at 1600 MHz. is not a system bottleneck. On an APU powered system ~2133 MHz. is the cut-off where there is little tangible system gains and only because the GPU section of the APU can use the added band width.

The marketing of high speed DDR3 / DDR4 is for the technically challenged who have not bothered to educate themselves or perform real world application tests to see the results for themselves. This over-priced DRAM however generates huge profits for DRAM purveyors.

However, when they defeated the other RAM to 100% of the price would be somehow justified is no better than GSKILL which is much cheaper. not to mention where are the 16 gb slots. 124gb sets. with added water cooler would still be worth a purchase even these elements are much cheaper with other providers of RAM .3400hz well on which BIOS. 3200 max?

With the Dominator and Dominator Platinum the extra height is there because the PCB has our DHX cooling. The DHX cooling helps removing heat from the IC through the PCB. The top of the PCB is plated and comes in contact directly with the fins and top of the heatspreaders.

It takes time to get up to higher frequencies but it will be there. There are also alot of different technologies enabled in DDR4 compared to DDR3. Such as error correction, lower voltage, separated VPP supply, and the psuedo open drain.

The cooling on the Dominator Platinum definitely helps the temperatures meaning higher frequencies, tighter timings, etc.

I think 200$ is a fair price for those.... Maybe. Considering that are only 16GB....

Think about the pricing this way, these are the very top of the very top of the top bin. Just like Intel/AMD bin out the CPUs the top end are always more expensive because it costs more to produce them. Each IC is individually tested by hand on a motherboard. It takes 32 ICs to build one 4x4GB kit. Then once the ICs are mounted it goes through another few rounds of testing.

There is no other 3400MHz kit on the market at this time. Looking at other 3333MHz kits they are about 800USD right now. As for 16GB modules, the ICs aren't available yet unless you want to run a Registered DIMM. On X99 you're able to use the bclock ratios in order to reach 3400 with 127.5 baseclock and 26.66 memory divider or 170 baseclock with the 20.00 memory divider. The kit also works with XMP on the X99 SOC Champion board from Gigabyte.
 
I thought these were expensive, around $1,000 for a 4x4 16Gb kit.
Kingston are releasing a 32Gb single stick of 2133 MHz DDR4 Ram. KVR21L15Q4/32
Bet that bites ya wallet too.
