cpu constantly at 50% ussage

ma cpu seems to stick at 50 when i come out of an intense period of gaming and now when i play wmp but when i close wmp it wont re-open ive dissabled both audio devices and ma little volume controll says i have no audio devices installed and its still stuck at 50

edit: yea its onboard realtek i usually have an external usb mixer that acts as a audio device but i dnt have access to that, for about a month now but this has only happened recently

i think its wmp. is task manager in services it says wmp is using 50 percent and says its till running when it aint i think the problem may be with that

hey i think im right bloody hell haha i clicked end task on wmp and its gone back down to 0 like it should
so we no the problem its wmp so whys it doing this?

This can happen if the program doesnt close properly or function, it happens. Manually end the process and restart the program and then close it again.

Make sure nothing is maxing out the thoroughput of your hard drive making it hard for programs to function. You can do this via the resource monitor at the bottom of the performance tab in the task manager and then checking what files are being read and written to.

edit: Also I'm guessing the hard drive you have isn't very good to begin with? What model is it? If its below 5400rpm then it won't be great.

i forgot i had dissabled all audio devices loaded wmp up and closed it without a problem so im gonna try it again with ma audio enabled and see if ma cpu sticks at 50

yup played a song with one sound device enabled closed wmp and it stick at 50 and in task manager says wmp is still going in processes

and im using 7

yup and i disabled one audio device and tried it with the other and still the problem

edit: yea it is crap in the bit when it rates ur componantes i get a 1 for ma hdd

Lol, that will take absolutely ages for all the properties to get changed. It took a good 10mins on my laptops 32GB SSD drive which can write at 80MB/s. Good idea though but shouldn't indexing help worse drives?

im guessing ur talking to me well i found out that its windows media players thats causing it to get stuck at 50 coz when i close it task manager says its still there using 50 percent recourses. i tried wmp dissableing all devices and it closed fine ma cpu didnt get stuck a tried it with both audio devices on it got got stuck at 50 i swapped between the two and again it got stuck at 50 and wmp was still in the processes tab when i closed it

edit: thing is whilst wmp is playing ma cpu doesnt get stuck its only when i try to close it that it does

yup it deffinitally is wmp i dowloaded a program callev VLC it worked great played all ma stuff i closed it and it closed fine and ma cpu didnt stick at 50

edit: thanks guys for helping me fix this, well it aint fixed coz wmp still does it but ive found a way around the problem and i couldnt ave if it wasnt with help though you lot so thanks to everyone who's offered suggestions and helped me come to this conclusion

Curious as to what game?

Did you try in command box(window) "sfc / scannow" and see if any sys files are defective.

And, maybe a good virus and malware scan is in order.

The reason I said that is because windows media player has a bug with indexing avi files that causes it to stick. I don't know if they fixed it or not. Easy enough to test. Turning indexing off can't take any longer then the hours I'm sure you've already spent on it. Verifying one known problem would be worth it imo.

Why don't you download the program I suggested and see if it shows the application getting hung on a file or w/e.
