CPU-ID Question

In my bios, I have overlclocked my E8400 to 3.85GHz. But CPU-Z is telling me that the multiplier is set to 6 (instead of 9), and that I have actually achevied an underclock of 2.6GHz ?!

Is CPU-Z lying to me or is my bios lying?

It isn't lying if you have Intel's Speedstep and C1E enabled on the BIOS. Do some mild tasks to see if it climbs, if it does, it's pretty much normal.

Ah yes..I see...

It idles with the multiplier at 6 but kicks up to 9 whenever a demand is put upon it.
