Which one really matters, I'm assuming it's the actual cpu temp, not the temp of core0 and core1, right? Because the core temps seem pretty low... Just kinda wondering which ones really matter, and why did they even put the core temps in there IF they don't matter.

Core temp matters more. It's also usually more accurate, I've found. My 4200+ reported, for example, a 35c CPU temp, but the cores were, maybe at 40c each. When overclocking, it would reach, maybe 60c cpu temp, which should still be stable, but the cores were reading 65-70c each, and were unstable, so I believe core temp more than CPU temp.
Also, monitoring core temps allows you to check if both are in proper contact with the IHS, which may not always be the case, and may be a good reason to strip your CPU, making it run nekkid.

ya my e6400 @ 2.6GHz 1.3v gets around 29 degrees idle, but reaches around 38 degrees load, but on my cores i get 37 degrees idle and 48 degrees load,
IMO trust core temp, uses temp readings from the core itself instead of the IHS

i think the coretemp i have is showing the wrong readings i think, people saying it gives 15 degree's higher temps than its supposed to with e6400 L2's

Weird, usually during stress tests on mine, CPU reaches 60, and cores stay 35-45c. My core temp jumps around constantly every 2 seconds it goes from like 55 to 58, then 54, then 57, its weird, not like any other cpu/mobo I've used. The same CPU on my old mATX mobo would read much more steadily, still with lower core temps though. If I touch the base of the heatink though, my fingers tell me that the cpu is running at 60 though...

Right now CPU temps is reported 25c, core 1 is 6c, and core 2 is 12c. Idle. 2 minutes of load gives me 47c cpu, 26c core1, and 34c core2...??

I watched as the temps varied every second, it seems like the CPU temp varies up and down a lot more than core temps. Core temps seem to be more "stable" than cpu temp.

Overall, core temps seem average 15c lower than my cpu temp though.

ya coretemp updates itself every 500ms (0.5s) i think, thats why it varies constantly

If I could regulate my room temperature better, I would feel a lot more comfortable squeezing some more OC outta this thing. Problem is the heat is eather ON or off here, when its on its ONN, and when its off its freezing. And the heat control is locked up in the basement of the building.

CPU vs Core temps caqn be way off.
My uGURU clock is reading 37deg for the CPU.
Core Temp is reading 27 deg for each core.
room temperature is 28deg.

10 degree difference at idle!

AV8 mobos are notorious for incorrect CPU readouts though.

It is simply not possible for your idle temps to be below ambiant, at least if you are using air cooling. You would need chilled water or TEC cooling to do that. Part of your problem is that you need a program that will actually read the temperatures correctly. What program are you using?

I had a similar problem when upgrading to my E6850. Core temps would be 11 degrees C, while ambiant was 22 C. Unfortunately, I had to try several programs to find one that worked, because all programs would read the same way. Finally, I found CoreTemp would read them correctly.

Yeah, I figured the same thing, its about 63-65F in here right now, core temp somehow says 7c for core one, which is 45F:confused: I'm using everest. I'll try CoreTemp and get back.

CoreTemp gives me the same core temps as everest (7c core 1, and 12c core 2). I downloaded both the beta and previous version.

Oh yeah and the readme says:

"CPU Support list:

All AMD K8 CPUs are supported starting with the early SH-C0 stepping and up. The latest 65nm BH-G1 and DH-G1 revisions give inaccurate readings."

I've got the Brisbane with BH-G1 stepping. I guess that explains it, a little.

My friend has a 5200+ Windsor, it gives the same type of readings--lower cores than ambient. He also uses everest though.

I'm using CoreTemp at the moment.
Found out an issue.
I think I get false readings with Cool n' Quiet enabled.
I have disabled it by changing my power setting to Home/Desktop instead of Minimal Power Management woithout going into BIOS.

CoreTemp reading with Cool n' Quiet on to the left and w/out on the right.

Temp reading on the uGURU clock has also changed..
CPU idle is now 43 Degrees.

Just for the heck of it I tried CoreTemp beta 0.9.0.91, and its pretty much the same, just the numbers are reversed.... I guess ill wait for a new version? Unless somebody else knows a good Temp Monitor.... Pretty much everything I've used gives me the same readings. I have CnQ disabled in bios too.

Does Biostar have a monitoring program? You could try that otherwise, here's the list of usual programs:

SysTool
CoreTemp
SpeedFan
Everest
Tat <- for Intels
Motherboard Monitor <- old program, but may still support your sensor chip

I think there was monitoring in the new AMD program (I think it was Overdrive?).

Systool did the same thing, so did speedfan, but speed fan was wacky, read 189c as one of the temps. MbM didnt do anything when I installed it, no support for my mobo. Biostars monitoring scares me, I'll install it and post a screen shot, just because its so awful. Nothing really works right with the temps, I don't get it, and my friends Windsor core acts the same way, so thats even weirder, especially since everybody else seems to be fine.

Ya, this is the kind of software biostar gives you.

That's scary. Try Everest - it might work. Also, that's a nVidia chiset, so maybe nTune might work.

BTW, The AMD Overdrive was for X700 series chipsets only.

I've been using Everest for a while now. Ntune is almost as pathetic as some of biostars. Honestly, I expected a LOT better from nvidia, although Ntune works pretty well with my friends Asus M2N... it still looks like garbage.

Well, I've been reading the CPU temp (which is the higher of the three), not cores, because thats the only one that seems "real." I tried hwmonitor too... that gives the same temp as everything else, but the fan speeds on that are screwy too. I've tried just about everything I could find, and I did update my bios as soon as I got the motherboard... AND I tried AMD's Overdrive, that wouldnt even start, basically said I needed a 700 series chipset, that's from the newest version, it installed though.
