CPU upgrade help

Probably would be safer, again, getting a better cooler for when you're overclocking. Adding in voltage bumps the heat produced quite a bit.

The 212 EVO does the job just fine, even with an overclocked 4690k...

I am running my 4690k @ 4.2ghz @ 1.14V(If I remember correctly) with a 212 EVO, Idle temps are around 35-40 celcius.... game load is around 55celcius.... Prime Small FFTS was getting up to around 75-80c... So even in Prime, which is an unrealistic amount of load, its still performing just fine.

Edit: I am using 2 Coolermaster JetFLO fans on my 212 Evo just so people are aware. However, they do not run @ 100% speed)

I know about the new parts and im using my current case most likely, current power supply and current graphics card till after the cpu upgrade then i will either go to a r9 380 or gtx 960 idk yet.
I'd like to know what PSU you have and how old it is.
That case does not move much air, but it will be okay if you stick with the GPU's you've mentioned.
If I were you, I'd wait for Black Friday and get a 6600K and motherboard then. Maybe you could also afford a SSD by then?

really don't wanna wait that long by then id have well over enough money and wouldn't be worth it in the end

Member also asked about your PSU...

which one? Post a picture of it if you cant tell. Chances are you will need a power supply also. In that case this is what I would do:

How about this ?

If you are not getting a K cpu you don't really need the extra cooler. With that being said I linked you a k type cpu + mobo + ram for the same price and non K cpu + mobo + ram + psu for the same amount. So imo what I linked is better

it's fine if you don't plan on OC'ing, in which case you don't need the Hyper 212.

Get the i5 4690k with a Hyper 212 if you want to OC.

What he said.

So in order to get all the necessary parts im going to have to increase my budget some more.

How come? both what we have linked and you have linked is $350. What are all the parts you need and your budget?

your first build isnt factoring in the cpu cooler on it

That's true because I wasn't sure if you have one. You can ofcourse buy a cooler later down the line when you get those $25 and hold of overclocking until then. I might say even screw overclocking and get a decent power supply and a nonK cpu. Can you post the exact model (picture) od your psu?

i did find a local store near me that has a i5 4590 for $160
and ill get the picture of the psu as soon as i get home

I found a Intel DH77EB mainboard, Core i3-3225 CPU, Scythe heatsink and a 128GB SSD all for $120. Would it be a decent idea to buy all this and just upgrade the cpu when i get the cash and get like an i7 2600k or 2700k?

That motherboard does not support overclocking so getting a k type cpu would be a waste of money. For $120 i think its a decent sent (but I don't know 2nd hand prices in the US) but note that you will still have to buy ram. The i3 is a lot faster in single threaded applications and on pair on multi-threaded application.

The prices for these parts as far as iv seen is pretty high. But i could hold of a lil longer with these parts than what i currently have, i would assume

Actually from a quick look at ebay, seeing as especially a SSD is included the price looks pretty good to me

Does any body have any clue why my computer struggles to run games that i even meet the requirements to run.

Is this based on what you just bought (actually, just assuming you bought), or on your system specs pc?

unfortunately iv been delayed in the new parts and will have to wait a while to get them. so its still based on my system specs i posted except i have 8gb ram now

Ok, can you define "slow."? Don't worry, I believe you it feels slow...you just know these things. Unfortunately, numbers are easier for multiple people helping to work with. What kinds of tests have you run, and the results?

What is the actual model of motherboard? Is the q8300 overclocked or stock? What speed is your DDR2? Is there an XMP profile on there for the RAM? What are the voltages? Have you monitored temps while it is running slow?

All these will be of much help!
