Hi, I have an HIS x1650PRO turbo 256mb pci-e, would it be possible to crossfire the x1650pro with a x1650xt ?
and is it worth getting another for $160 cad? or should i go for a more higher gpu?

I think you need two identical cards to use it in crossfire.

ok, thanks, should i just buy an x1950xtx ? i dont plan on getting vista (dx 10) for quite some time, so i dont care about that

Maybe save a bit of money and get an x1950 pro.

Or get two X1950GT's and crossfire them up :) (saves money from the PRO's)

Flash the BIOS's of em to X1950 PRO's and you basically got crossfired X1950 PRO's (outperforming an X1950XTX)

If your not worried about DX10, dont bother getting a second X1650...you may as well upgrade now and not have to upgrade for a while.

Oh, and you do need two of the same cards to crossfire (the way you can get around it is by flashing one of the cards, but i dont think you can flash an x1650 pro into an x1650xt)

Only problem with that is the cooling on the 1950gt's isn't as good... So you might want to upgrade that if you are going to do that...

As far as changing..

Ya a single x1950pro is faster than 2 x1650xts and the x1950xt really isn't that much faster than a x1950pro.

Yeah thats true - the good thing about the PRO's is that most of the coolers did a damn good job :p

The only "main" advantage of the X1950XT over the X1950 PRO is the 48 vs 36 shaders, and 16 vs 12 pipes...but if you get 2 X1950 PRO's, itll kill an X1950XT anyway :p

so i should get two sapphire radeon x1950 pro 512mb pci-e for an extra $70 more instead of a radeon x1950 xtx ? and it makes up for the 48 shaders, 16 pipes, gddr4 and both mem/core speeds? im new to this whole gfx card / crossfire thing. this is the only store around that sells them near my area..

also should i go 512 or 256 with 2 of them?

See thats been my dilema...

Because I have been wanting a x1950pro, but for about the same price I can get the sapphire x1950xt, but I heard it has pretty bad stock cooling.. :(
And I probably wont crossfire for a while yet like at least another year.

On the base question of a single 512 or 2 256 versions pfft no competition 2 256s... 512's will only help in a few games over the 256s, but crossfire 256s will destroy a single 512.

Sorry guys buy 2 x1650xt are faster then a 1950pro my 2 x1600xt are about the same speed i get 5600+ in 06 and the x1650 has 12 more shaders each card and 4 more pipelines per card so..

ok, so what one should i go for 2x512's or 2x256's ? the xt/xtx's (two of them) are a bit out of my price range as i could either only afford 2pro's or 1xt or 1xtx

get your self eather a x1950xt or xtx and then later on if you want to you can get another.

The X1950XT has horrible stock cooling, but with proper cooling can easily crack 6500 on 3dmark06 with the proper CPU. It easily hits 13,000 on 05. With good, aftermarket cooling it would probably hit closer to 7000 on 3dmark06, considering the fact that I barely overclocked mine and hit 6800.

Wrong.... 2 Overclocked x1650xts are NOT faster than a single stock clocked x1950pro. I read 4 tests on it, and in no tests did the 1650xt's beat a single x1950pro. Tests in games not 3dmark which is only bench testing not real application speeds.

They run close in a set, but are not faster. Remember crossfire doesn't just double your speed.

Get the x1950pro, then later on crossfire it.

Good OC in very good in Crossfire.;)

If you have the money, 2x512's just to futureproof yourself. Otherwise I'm pretty sure 2x256's will last you a long time.

Just wondering but what resolution do you play games at?

usually as high as possible, and if there is any jerkyness/lag ill turn off anti-aliasing rather than lowering res, my monitor is a 17 inch crt.

not true some cards do double the performance my X1600xt gets a 90% increace in crossfire close to double.

Can you give us an idea of the resolution you play at most though? Because I've read a thread on this forum somewhere that the performance difference between a 512mb card and a 256mb is negligible if you play at resolutions at or lower than 1280x1024, but you can really start to tell the difference when you play at resolutions higher than 1280x1024.

Personally, I'd choose the 512's just to futureproof myself for a while, but if you're on a tight budget 2x256mb's should serve you just fine.

I wouldn't get two cards at all. A single X1950Pro OC should keep you happy for most games coming out, and I would get the 512 version since you are only getting one. You should get an aftermarket cooler for it though.

Chances are by the middle of next year you'll be wanting Vista/DX10, so ultimately it depends on how much money you have now, and how much you can get over the time span of a year and half.

90% of the time i play at 1280x1024. and for an aftermarket cooler would i need 2 if i had 2 gfx cards? can anyone advise one?

I'd have to agree. The x1950 pro is much faster than 2 overclocked crossfired x1650xt's. I've read a few reviews comparing this already and they all show the same result.
