I bought the Special edition of Crysis and I have been having a terrible time trying to enjoy it. The audio cuts out and skips randomly and frequently. It is extremely frustrating and is ruining my experience.

I have tried reinstalling the game, direct x 9.0c, Catalyst 6.10 and my X-Fi drivers to no avail. It is driving me nuts as I can get a very playable frame rate at medium settings with some on high at 1360x768.

I don't understand what is happening because it happens even if I turn all the settings to low at 800x600. I also tried installing the ATI hotfix becasue I figured it couldn't hurt but the setup gives me an error message every time I run it.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated becasue I really want to like Crysis but these issues are making me hate it.

Is the game running from the CD?

sounds like your soundblaster isn't coping, maybe it's a driver issue, have you tried updating them??

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that it's probably the lag in either the PCI BUS, or the latency/speed of your systems DRAM

Out of curiosity, what speed is your DRAM running at?

Anyhow . . . first thing I'd do, check your BIOS for a "PCI Latency" setting. If you've got this option, try bumping it up a bit - i.e. if it's set at [32] for default, bump it to[64] - and see if the stuttering happens less frequently.

Try going back to the 2nd most recent sound driver..

Crysis stuttering problem

Hi

You have the exact same problem as I've had. I bought the special edition of Crysis and when I tried running it under dx10 the screen would go black and freeze with the sound repeating. The system would not recover from this point and i was force to reset the pc. Having looked on the forums i noticed that lots of people were having problems with the demo version and in particular they were suggesting that this problem was a sound card issue.
I first tried reinstalling dx10 from Microsoft home site and this didn't work. I downloaded the latest sound driver for my motherboard and again this didn't work.
I finally solved the problem by downloading the latest driver for my graphics card (ATI HD 2900 XT). There are four current versions, two for Vista and two for XP. I am running Vista 32 bit version which was fine for me. The game now runs perfectly even on the highest graphic settings.

Enjoy the game!

The audio cuts out and skips randomly and frequently.
Does it occur independently from HDD activity?
If not, I´d recommend a good defrag tool.

Sometimes I experience the same with new games after fresh installation.
Then I defrag my games partition BY NAME with O&O Defrag, and it´s gone.

Have you downloaded the Creative ALchemy driver yet? If not try that ;)

Have you OC your 1950's? I get some sound issues and freezes if I overclock (Overdrive) on my 1950xtx, at stock all is fine. Also, I assume you meant Catalyst 7.10 (least I hope thats what you meant!:D). Oh, and the hotfix was only for the HD2xxx and 3xxx cards, so they may have blocked you from installing it, since yours is a x1950.
