Cd Projekt Red have confirmed that they-ve entered a development partnership with NVIDIA once again for their upcoming Cyberpunk 2077. Like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt before it, which incorporated NVIDAI exclusive features such as Hairworks animations for monsters, Cyberpunk 2077 will feature a (for now) NVIDIA-exclusive technology in the form of RTX. This is a much more immersive and game changing technology for graphics than Gameworks ever provided, and if you want the ultimate version of Cyberpunk 2077, you'll likely have to be playing in on the PC platform with NVIDIA hardware. 4K screenshots featuring the raytracing implementation have been seeded, so take care to look for those after the break.





According to CD Projekt Red's Adam Badowski, integration of NVIDIA's raytracing technology via hardware acceleration will allow them to achieve "realistic representation of the behavior of light in a condensed urban environment", which will allow for "additional levels of depth and verticality to the already impressive megacity". CD Projekt Red pushed the envelope in graphics technologies with their Witcher 3, and now, Cyberpunk 2077 seems to be willing to pull the same mean feat.

Considering how friggin awesome The Witcher 3 was I literally can not wait for this, this thread may well descend into tears about RTRT, but I'm having to nurse a semi right now regardless.

I'll be curious to try it out... but I have no high hopes of doing a real playthrough with RTX on only having a 2060 lol. Good thing I didn't buy it for that. I'm sure the game will look damned good without it.

All I can think about is how awesome the screenshots coming out look. I'm not even talking graphics, here. They fricking nailed the aesthetic. That counts for wayyy more than some RTX shit. Nobody can say for sure from a little footage and some images, but to me it looks like they got that cyberpunk dystopian vibe on lock and then refined it to a level that has never been achieved before. Next level, no hype, that's just real. Anybody who's consumed a lot of cyberpunk media will probably agree. I ask myself if they can really do for that what they did for historic medieval settings... and maybe they actually can.

I'm not so sure I'd 'love' to mix those flavors. Something in my mind says there's no way that's intentional. But my eyes say that it can only be one thing... "Eyyyep. That's a penis."

I lost count on how many playthroughs I had with Witcher 3 and I played it just fine without HairWorks. And I'm sure I'll be fine with GTX 1080 Ti. Here's hoping the card ages well.

Very good point. If this game becomes the classic we all hope it will be, then everyone will eventually be able to see it at its best.
 
Considering how "smooth" the Gameworks inplementation in TW3 was, I hope they have learned from it. Otherwise we'll have RTX2080's struggling to maintain 60fps.

The setting with neons and whatnot could be a perfect match for RTRT if done right.

This would have looked so much better if it had both reflections (BFV) not just lighting (Metro).

I'm disappointed with custom, proprietary feature support that favor one company while excluding another.

If AMD don't offer a solution, that is their problem.

I would not bet on that. Like Witcher 3, CDPR may have implemented NVIDIA's library as is. The calls may be direct to the RTX API like many other games. Unless the label say "Recommended: DirectX Raytracing," it is not.

I was more thinking about what neon's flickering usually does to lighting.
