Cyberpunk 2077 is in the Cyberpunk 2020 world. Like Witcher, it's based on a licensed IP. It's not an original IP.

A third of all PC preorders have been on GOG

I'll be definitely getting the game there. No better way to show support.
What’s funny are the number of posts and threads on the Steam forum by people stating their intention to buy it on GOG. Of course all those posts bring on hateful responses by the Steam cultists, but interesting nonetheless.

I don't think its cultist at all, people like playing with their friends and they just automatically assume its easier to play with friends if they just own it on steam, and to be fair ever since the latest updates it really is easy to see and join a friends multiplayer game in steam friends list, and I have about 10 close friends on Steam, so I probably will buy it on Steam as I know they are as well, and while adding Steam overlay only takes a few clicks, that isn't the point, thats where lot of our friends are, and we are social creatures, so eh

While you may not agree I have been supporting GOG since it's inception. Some of us do have lives an expenses outside of gaming so I do whatever I can to get my games at the cheapest I can. It's not like this game will not make so much money, as of March this year the community hub for this game had over 300000 followers. It is not even like I am getting a physical copy of the game but a key that allows me access to the server the game files are stored on. If you want to pay full price that is your choice. I predict that this will be the best selling game of 2020.

So, if you have a life and expenses outside of gaming, focus on those, instead of cheating CDPR’s employees out of their pay. I urge you to read some news articles and leaks by employees. They have literally been working under grueling conditions for years now, while waiting for the payoff. If the game will be as good as you think and as high selling as you anticipate, they deserve all their compensation.

Who cares if it’s only a game key giving you access to files. Those files are 5 years of mostly 18-20 hour days, no vacations, no weekends, etc. Just because it will be a high selling game in no way entitles you to basically cheat the company and the employees who have poured their love, sweat and life into it.

You have 10 months to save up the money to buy the game yourself, and fulfill your end of the “contract.” That agreement is to provide you this game, with hours of escape, in return for you rendering payment.

While true, there is also another part of the equation. If you are dev and allow yourself to get stuck into continuous crunch time like that... its your own damn fault.

This is a real problem in the industry and only devs can solve it. By going on strike, and unions.

It is not fair to place the reality of a system we all support as the responsibility of the person buying a product. We see a lot of that lately (cars, flying for a holiday) And its wrong - the customer is not the one taking any profit here!

So yes. I understand and fully support consumers that try to get the lowest price. Too bad for those devs. As long as multi million dollar companies manipulate systems and rig every game that is played, I refuse to take the hit for bad working conditions of another.

Note also that CDPR got called out for exactly this while developing TW2 and 3 as well. Its company culture and I need not explain how lucrative that can be.

More simply put; when the world plays fair, so shall I.

Um, SP gamer, as are many. It’s not even clear exactly what component type of MP Cyberpunk will have. What is the point of all those “friends” on Steam who aren’t actual friends in a single player game? And yeah, read through the Steam forums. Pick a number of the game forums. There are boatloads of cultists who cannot imagine a world outside of Steamland. They literally get rabid at the mention of any other gaming store. It’s kind of sad actually.

While I agree with your first two paragraphs before you edited, the working conditions are not an excuse to pirate the game, which is what he was saying. There is never an excuse to steal.

Even, assuming the best, and only wants to buy it cheap, he has 10 (ten months) to save a couple of bucks (or whatever currency) a week. We all have life and expenses outside of gaming.

Pirate, buy a five dollar key, whatever. It is not our place really to pass judgment, IMO. Its also a digital product to which theft is a rather abstract sort of thing.

The gist of it: if you want people to act with their hearts, stop giving people a heartless world. The whole piracy thing got big on the back of that sentiment really.

By contrast take a look at Path of Exile. True F2P and the game rakes in a lot of cash out of pure goodwill. You cant go out and tell people to be like that...

I still disagree with you though, I know there are toxic types out there, but I still will buy this for Steam, my steam profile is very beautiful and I spent a lot of time on it, and I can cyberpunk stuff now too, I have all my screenshots/favorites well laid out for my friends to see, and they do same for me, I mean it's fine if your not into that, I only have around 15 friends, but I really do like having my profile as a display for me more so than anyone else, it just looks fantastic. It's fine if your not into that stuff, I use all stores including Uplay, origin, Epic Games, etc. I don't care about that part of it, but a big game like Cyberpunk I still want on Steam for the social aspect of it

You should really take a look at Discord and take your 15 friends along. There you don't have the shitty Steam communities with all their 4chan infested BS, but you do have dedicated channels devoted to games, gaming groups and other goodness. And also a voice chat that is not shit, while every channel also doubles as a continous forum thread.

And, best of all, you're not tied to a god damn storefront like some clueless kid. Call it part of growing up, whatever... but really. Open your eyes.

There is no abstract concept to not paying for something someone else made and has not given for free. Piracy is wrong and that is why advocating for it is illegal on TPU.

Of course. But you're not a mod... and yes, there is absolutely an abstract concept of it, because we tend to pay with privacy these days. What is payment supposed to consist of? Money? Data? And is all that data being gathered on us not essentially legalized theft?

Hearts & heartless world ;) There you go. Another one: TPU's rather questionable ads. Even I support that because I prefer TPU to stay, but in reality...what are we really looking at here?

What’s funny are the number of posts and threads on the Steam forum by people stating their intention to buy it on GOG. Of course all those posts bring on hateful responses by the Steam cultists, but interesting nonetheless.
I love that term from a recent article here, observer effect. Cause when I look at CP77's steam forum, I see steam users arguing with other steam users that pre-ordering the game from GOG is the way to go, so as to support CDPR; while the other group argues that you shouldn't pre-order regardless of developers' previous games. In between the majority of these threads and posts there are a few that tout steam or gog supremacy, and they're either ignored or straight up shat on.

A little less bias goes a long way, unless you're just trying to be contrarian for the sake of it.

While you may not agree I have been supporting GOG since it's inception. Some of us do have lives an expenses outside of gaming so I do whatever I can to get my games at the cheapest I can.
I'm also a big supporter of GOG and have been since the start as well. My reasoning is different, and anyone who knows me will know where I'm going with this, it's not the cost. I would happily pay the same prices as everywhere else. It's the DRM free thing. Ever since the 90's and CD copy protection hit, I've had a particular disdain for any form of DRM. Back then, LAN parties were a thing. My family and friends were usually having one every month if not every other week. Forgetting your disc's at home was a real PITN. And it happened at every party, without fail one of us would forget a game disc. There was a point we all got tired of the BS and actively started hacking and "patching" our games so we wouldn't have anymore problems. We've been doing that since. The reasonings have changed, but the goal is the same; play games we've paid for wherever, whenever, however we desire. We paid for the games, we decide how they're used, within the realm of our personal use.

GOG provides a game sales and business model that eliminates the need for that all that hassle. This is why my gaming needs are served by them almost exclusively.

Devs and publishers whine and complain about piracy. Yet games from GOG are pirated no more or less than anything else. Why? There are likely many reasons. The reality is, their attempts to use DRM are all manner of weak-sauce. They will never stop hackers from patching every DRM scheme that comes to light. Even these new streaming services, which are just another thinly veiled form of DRM that has been already defeated and rather easily. However, at the end of the day, I generally do everything I can to avoid DRM. And if there is a gotta have title, I look for a "patch". If there is one, I go buy the game, and then use the "patched" version. If there is none, I do without.

A little less bias goes a long way, unless you're just trying to be contrarian for the sake of it.
Exactly!

The real story in the end is a sales number. The rest is just talk...

There is no abstract concept to not paying for something someone else made and has not given for free. Piracy is wrong and that is why advocating for it is illegal on TPU.

Can you clarify why you made this comment? I must have missed someone else post or something. I just don't see what it has to do with anything related to our conversation. I said I was buying the game on Steam.

Pirate, buy a five dollar key, whatever. It is not our place really to pass judgment, IMO.
Whatever? Yes it is our place to judge and shame someone for stealing. It's one thing to pay for software and "patch" it's DRM, it's completely another to steal it outright. Your opinion is wrong ethically, legally and morally.
Its also a digital product to which theft is a rather abstract sort of thing.
No, it isn't.

You missed the above. Vayra86 is just being themselves and trying to stir the pot.

I don't think he's being 100% serious, but you're right.

Nothing to do with you. :) I got quoted for an earlier statement in this thread, and responded to you both.
